Hi,
So today, Sunday, I have had a lot of pain around about, but deeper inside where my tumour was. My lumpectomy was a year ago April. I also recovered really well. I was getting worried but have been reading many women do feel the pain and stabbing sensations a long time after surgery. It could well be for you and me that it is the nerve endings regenerating themselves. I think this is probably right but it is so hard not to be worried. From my professional point of view (yes, I am a nurse - the worst of worriers) my site is not red and unusually warm to the touch and the pain is there but not severe. Like you stabbing pains which correspond to nerves regenerating themselves. I expect, like me, you had radiotherapy. Again, with my sensible hat on I think this is the likely cause.
However, I would say we both need to make a phone call to our Breast Care Nurses to have their opinion. They wouldn't want us worrying and for us knowing this does happen would be the peace of mind.
I wouldn't mind betting some of the lovely ladies on here will be along soon to let us know their experiences.

Hi, This is me one year later then you, nipple discomfort and pain to touch having recovered well then 8 months later experience this. Can you tell me what your breast nurse advised you after you rang her, as awaiting a reply from mine. Hope you are well are recovering from this.
Many thanks x
Hi gill.d58
I am almost 3 years from being diagnosed now.
I also recovered well and, to be honest, have always had some discomfort in my breast, even today I feel it
. I felt better on seeing my mammogram two years post-surgery because I saw my breast had quite a lot of metal clips and put the discomfort down to that. I have had two clear mammograms so far. It is always a worry but I put it all down to the metal clips.
I think we will always worry and that robs us of living and I don't let it. When I find myself full of 'what if' going through my mind I distract myself with a craft so that my focus is on that.

Hi Thrisa, Thank you for your quick response yes this makes sense to me speaking to someone who knows how your feeling makes a great difference, you push it to the back of your mind then when something changes you go into panic mode !!
I'm off for a walk with friends but don't like to discuss this with them but feel more reassured having found this like x

This site helped me so much when I was in an absolute state when first diagnosed.
I also don't share too much with friends because they always say 'stay positive' when all I want to do is to pour my dark moments out, work through it and come out the other side. Denying those feelings will make them fester and grow. You need to let your feelings out. I'm always here for anybody and there are other lovely ladies, even as far back as when I was a total mess still here, to get you through. those times
Take good care of you x Trisha
