Lymph node clearance

Hello, 7 years ago I had breast cancer, I had chemotherapy and also a 17 lymph node clearance, would this clearance make me more vunerable to contract covid-19 ?? I work for a supermarket when not all people adhere to the social distancing advise, should I be worried a little more worried than most ??

Thank you, any comments would be welcomed

  • Hi, I had a mastectomy and node clearance just a few weeks ago. I spoke to the breast clinic and they advised me just to follow the general social distancing advice - not the shielding or complete isolation as the clearance and breast cancer aren't considered to be one of the dangerous underlying health conditions in respect of Covid 19 so you should be ok as long as you are able to follow the social distances.

God bless you tho for being one of our valuable key workers.

    take care and keep well

  • Hi,

I too had a full node clearance 11 years ago, when I was diagnosed Stage 3 melanoma. After searching far & wide for advice regarding the immune system, node removal and Covid-19 I found this information from Melanoma Focus - I know it's written for melanoma patients but point number 6 applies to everyone who has had nodes removed melanomafocus.com/.../

So we are at no greater risk to the virus than anyone else. Also, as your chemo was so long ago, you are at no greater risk either. I hope this helps,

    Angie

  • Hi,

You will only be at greater risk if you are receiving chemotherapy now, or have had any recently. My reply to Sue61 shows a link that explains that we are no greater risk due to node clearance either. Best wishes,
