Hi I have been told after 10 years of tamoxifen to come off it now, just stop taking it no need to reduce gradually.
I just feel a bit nervous about suddenly not taking it, has anyone else just stopped and if so how does it affect you.
Thanks

Hi there ..
Everyone should do what they think .. but for me, I cut it in half , took that 10 days ... then a quarter for another 10 days .. worked for me ... and oh how lovely to loose all those side effects ... but hopefullyothers will give you their take on it ... well done for doing 10 years ... that's ausome... Hi Suzyb,
Well done for taking Tamoxifen for 10 years. I took it for 1 year after a lumpectomy. That was 10 years ago. I had a second cancer in the same breast a year later and, had a bilateral mastectomy, followed by Letrozole.
After 6 years on Letrozole I was told that I could stop and I did so straight away. I had no problem with any withdrawal symptoms.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Hi Jolamine

Hi Suzyb,
Did your oncologist not give you any advice about how to stop taking this? I think that you should be safe enough to stop. From what I have read on this site, I understand that the residual Tamoxifen may remain in your body for up to 4 weeks.
Please let us now how you get on when you stop.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
He said just stop, I think I was over thinking and maybe a little scared of suddenly not having it in my system. But I've decided to just do it, I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again

Hi ya ..
Glad you got other advice ... I might have been o.k just stopping .. but I worked in a 're hab a few years ago, where they always weined people off ... so I may have been a bit over cautious, but it worked for me ..
Good luck ... and well done again , doing so long ... Chrissie ; ))
Hi Suzyb,
I can understand your fear, but you will still have some in your system for about 4 weeks. I hope that you don't have any problems.
Kind regards,
