My Progress

I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer last April but it was later found to be Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer which I was told was very rare & I would need aggressive treatment to survive.   I was operated on in June last year & the surgeon removed the Thyroid, Parathyroid Gland, Lymphnodes, & tied off the carrotted artery.   I then had to have two days of chemo & 33 days of radiation which ended on 1st Spetember. The treatment is awful as you have to wear a mask over your head & shoulders which is moulded to your skin and you wear it every day of radiotherapy.   I was very ill & had to stay in hospital many times during this time & the last stay was when I had Sepsis last October.   It was worth it in the end as I had a PET scan about a month ago & I was told there was no sign of the cancer.   I was also told that there were only 4 people they knew of in 3 counties that had this cancer and that they had not survived because they refused to have the treatment as they couldn't face it.   In the beginning I was told that even if my cancer went, it would return in another part of the body in about 2 years' time as it always had in other people who had it.   All I know is that I'm cancer free at the moment and in about another 1.1/2yrs time, I should see an improvement in my condition.   I have a dry mouth, a very sore throat, a very croaky voice and lympodeama in my neck and a numb shoulder.

  • Hi Munnoch246,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It sounds like you've been through a lot recently. Thank you for sharing your story with us on here - I'm sure it will prove useful to other people searching for similar information in future.

It's great to hear the PET scan was clear and that you're getting on OK.

I hope the symptoms you mention ease a little soon, and I also hope you find this forum useful.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi Munnoch246

Thanks for sharing this. And well done for all you have been through.

As you say you are clear now so one day at a time - I too am learning to live in the moment.
