Tamoxifen

Hi, I was prescribed tamoxifen and have been taking them for 9 days. I did not put two and two together for a a week that I had not had a decent night sleep. On Sunday night I was so wired I did not sleep one second and decided to google other side affects and discovered that insomnia was a side affect. I spoke to a nurse and was told I had to wait for a month for them to settle down and possible see my GP for sleeping tablets for the short term. A further solution was to start taking them at night! I changed my time which which made no difference and the only solution was a sleeping tablet for my sanity.
I am now trying to decide wherever to continue taken them.

  • Hi Nandot , just to let you know you’re not alone but it does get better. I started taking tamoxifen in april and the first few months were horrendous. I still have occasional nights of insomnia and even when I do sleep I’m awake at 5am but I can deal with that. My oncologist said gp could prescribe sleeping tablets but would only be for 1 week so I just persevered. I was also told the ingredients in nytol interact with tamoxifen so not to take them. My go to now is night nurse. Told by pharmacist these are ok and cause drowsiness so if I am suffering I take one tablet but you should check with your team. Hope it gets better for you. Xx nicky xx

  • Thank you, I am going to persevere for a month and see how it goes. I have only taken a sleeping tablet for one night but maybe I will check with my nurse about the night nurse. X x
