Wanting a tattoo

I have had a lumpectomy and 3 lymph nodes removed and have just finished 15 sessions of radiotherapy. I know I am not allowed any blood pressure taken from my arm and no needles however I am wanting a tattoo of the breast cancer ribbon and would like it on my hand on the side of the cancer. Silly question but, am I allowed to have this tattoo on my hand?

  • Did they remove your lymph nodes too? And how did you feel after xxx

  • Hi laura

im surprised they didn't remove some lymph nodes when they did the lumpectomy, I think the cancer was purely in the breast. I can sense you are getting in a state over it all and I can def understand that but please don't let it take over your life especially with you having your little one, it won't do you any good and the little one will pick up your feelings. As I said they removed a few lymph nodes when I had my lumpectomy, I found that more uncomfortable than the breast, think it's because it's in the armpit and it was a sore like feeling with having to use your arm all the time. I think I told you before, tell your mum to get a little cushion to put under her arm after the op, I did and def found it helpful.

  • Hi Georgina

thanks for calming me down. I am just finding it hard to understand when they remove the lymph nodes will this then change the stage etc? I guess I'm just so scared as they keep changing things which I understand that might happen but didn't think it would be pre cancer to now invasive . Wondering how mum will be when the remove the nodes ? How was you after and they said mum has invasive mammary tall cell breast cancer never heard of this would this mean the mammary nodes are affected? We just have to wait it out again I'm trying to be strong it's just me mum and my baby that's all I have xx

  • Morning laura

as I said I'm surprised they didn't remove the lymph nodes when your mum had the lumpectomy, it saves time and stops your mum having to go under twice. I know it's a wait and see game but it's very hard for you and your mum, stay positive babe, I can't believe how positive I stayed once I got my head round it. Like I said your mum will be in discomfort after the lymph nodes are removed only because of where it is. I was very sore after having mine removed, a strange feeling, stinging and soreness, don't forget the cushion. I know it's easier said than done but don't let it take over your life until you know what you're dealing with, enjoy your little one as you can't get this time back.

  • Hi Georgina. I've just joined, thought I had already done so! I was going to ask the exact same question you had, a few years ago lol. What you wrote was how I was going to write it as has the same done. I've actually got the MS & BC ribbons entwined and on my right wrist. Absolutely love them. I'm now going to getting a open heart with my daughters year of birth and she is getting the same with my year of birth lol. But I'll get it on the right side. Hope you got your tat done in the end.

  • Morning,

I haven't actually had a tattoo yet, covid stopped it as it stopped everything else, my daughter got pregnant and gave me my first beautiful grandchild 8 months ago after having 3 miscarriages then I've had a bad hip and am actually 6 weeks post op from having a hip replacement. I am going to get one one day but as we are all in turmoil with covid I don't know when that will be

  • Hi Georgina

many congratulations on becoming a grandparent

You'll be absolutely fine with your op honey. I had a total left hip replacement 32, yes 32 years ago come January. I was 26 years old!! And even though I was one of the first people, and youngest, to have the new titanium post which would last between 10 and 15 years, I still have it ️  I had Perthes disease and suffered for many years. When I eventually went to see an orthopaedic consultant at the age of 18, just under half my hip joint had eroded away! We both agreed that I would carry on as best I could and I lasted another 8 years after 3/4 had worn away!! My scsr is 10.5 inches long  Thankfully the op is so much better and easier these days. You'll feel like a new woman after

and get your tattoo done when you can

  • Hi julie

i had my left one done 5 years which has been amazing, I have found this one harder but put it down to the fact that I'm 5 years older. Wow 32 years ago and wow you had one at 26. My goodness bet you were in a lot of pain in the end, which I know can be debilitating. My scar from last time is half the size of this recent one, I don't care tho, I'm quite proud of my scars. I will get a tattoo hopefully next year.
