Life after cancer

Hi,

I'm new to this so please bear with me.I was diagnosed November 2018 with breast cancer totally out of blue no family history or anything.I went on to have 6 sessions of chemo,a masectamy  and 3 weeks of radiotherapy finishing last July.Since then I returned to work but found it too much and didn't get a lot of support from my employers so I left after 10 years.I have now got problems with my thyroid which I think is getting under control but wanted to ask you guys if anyone suffers with aches and pains in all your body all the time as I need to this is 'normal'!.Naively I thought by now I would be back to myself but not only do I ache but get confused really easily ,menopausal and so so tired all the time even when doing nothing.I feel so guilty for whinging on .

  • Hi Inglebob and welcome to our forum,

I am sorry to hear you have had so little support from your employers after 10 years working there and that you have also suffered from aches and pains as well as thyroid issues.

Don't feel guilty at all - you have come to the right place to offload and talk to others who have been dealing with similar issues and for whom life after cancer hasn't always been plain sailing. I hope others who have suffered similar symptoms post cancer treatment will be along and share their story with you.

It might be worth signalling to your doctor these aches and pains as well as the extreme tiredness you have been experiencing recently so do talk to your GP about this and I am sure they will be able to point you in the right direction.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi I'd have thought quite a few people would have replied by now if you are having menopause that could cause a lot of the problems. You will feel do a bit after treatment it always takes it out of you As well. Might be a good idea to see doctor you might get some medicine to help you. Good luck.

  • Hi,

It's no surprise if you are feeling tired & ache all the time after major cancer surgery and treatment, the trauma of returning to work and having to leave work, a possible thyroid problem and menopausal. Add to that the stress of everything and this will manifest itself in different physical ways.

I would see your GP and outline how you feel. They may say that some of it is down to the thyroid problem and they may not have got your medication balanced properly yet. Be kind to yourself and take it easy. Until your GP can put your mind at rest just ease up and don't stress the small stuff. Hopefully things will improve with time.
