Healing properly after an operation can take a long time some nerves can take longer to heal properly sometimes people can get a bit of fluid inside it can cause a lot of pain (I'm not a doc I'm talking about a friend of mine) he was months in pain and they had to drain his leg twice. Hope it goes off on its own. Best of luck.

Hi Knotty, my husband had his leg amputation, above the knee ten years ago and still gets phantom pain. You have to understand that all the nerve endings are still there so it's natural to feel this pain. You can get medication from your GP, mainly an anti depression tablet, not for depression but to depress the pain in your nerve endings. It can take trial and error to get the dosage right but persevere until you get it adjusted. Norman doesn't take any but rubs voltarol on his stump to help or normal ibuprofen. He mainly gets phantom pain if his prosthetic is not on properly. I don't know how far on it is from your amputation but I check in everyday as he now has lung cancer. So, happy to help if you need it. Kind regards, Carol
