Avis

My name is Kay and I was diagnosed with Beast Cancer in 2009 and given a 10 year plan which finishes next May
So at this point I can say I am in remission
Have found this continuing year after year hard and even although the end is near it is hard to keep going. Looking for support at this time have never asked or been on any chat with others in the same boat. Thanks Avis

    Hi Kay,

I am sorry to hear that you have found your cancer journey hard throughout the past 10 years. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer, followed by a lumpectomy and double mastectomy respectively. I stopped taking Letrozole last year after taking it for 6 years.

I was really looking forward to having my treatment behind me and being in remission, but find it difficult to know that it can always rear its' ugly head again. There are many of us here with all different types, grades and stages of breast cancer and we are all here to help and support each other.

Do please tell us a little more about your cancer, so that we can support you along the way. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks for the welcome and I have had several responces.

    Thanks Kay

  • Hi Jolamine

Thanks for the reply you have been through a lot in the last 6 years I can see you are very strong.

If you have been able to manage without any of the tables to reduce the estrogen in your body that is great news. We all have to think in the back of our minds that the Big C could come back and live with that which makes us all strong individuals going through individual expereinces.

Mine has been good and bad had the lump removed under my arm with lymph nodes. Cemo 6 setions and 30 Radiation treatment. It has been the side effects from this that has impacted on me and my life.

The good was the relationship this created with my Daughter as without her support help and love I would not have got through that first year. We are best friends even although I thought we already were this is a whole new level. Also good was giving up smoking on the last day of my treatment. 9 years and counting.

Received radiation burns and as I was to receive recontruction work this was not possable. Also two lumps removed which were benign.

From there I have had to take pain killers Tramadol for 5 years and know Co-Codamol with Tamoxifen for being pre-menopausal and know Letrozole.. Have had a lot of the side effects so at this stage I am disabled with lymphedema in my legs, right arm and breast.

For last 2 years with COPD at the first stage so just inhalers at the moment. Have all the side effects for the change with Absent minded. Fluid retention, hot flash, cough, hoarseness, itching and lower back pain.

Still going to work received assesments for a chair and leg rest desk which moves up and down so that I am still able to attend the office and have some work days from home.

Apart from my family I have not went into any details and it looks like a lot when you write it all down but I think just putting this down has helped and for someone to contact me about it has been great.

    Thanks Kay
