Stabbing pain 3 years after thyroidectomy

I had a full thyroidectomy 3 years ago after being diagnosed with x2 1.5 cm, Thy 5 tumours - one each side of the thyroid.  Surgery went well and scar healed nicely but I’m now starting to get mild stabbing pain in thyroid area which is not abating - in fact intensifying.  Don’t want to seem a hypocondriac with my onco so wondered if anyone had anything similar- especiay after such a long period.  Will go to onco but nervous that I may not necessarily get the all clear...

By the way mine was only picked up due to having a relentless chronic cough which would not go away so had an CT scan to check the lungs - which fortunately discovered the two nodules.  After thyroidectomy - cough disappeared.

  • Hi AnnaP and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry you're starting to experience some mild stabbing pain in your thyroid area and can understand why you're concerned.

I'm sure your oncologist would want you to see them about any concerns so I'm glad you're going to book in to see them soon and fingers crossed the pain isn't anything to be worried about.

I think quite a few members here on the forum have had similar treatment and hopefully you'll hear some reassuring words from them soon.

    Kind regards,
