Why is cancer is making me a hypochondriac

Hi I guess i am writing this as i need to vent out my feelings. Just to update my cancer history. 2017 I was told i had 2b cervical cancer. Treatment was removal of overies, intense 7 week chemoradiotheraphy and bachatheropy(last treatment was the 7th November). I took it all in my stride and remained focus on the end results, I do suffer from fatigue still. I currently have 3 monthly check ups with my consultant.

6 weeks ago I started to feel ill again, constent lower back and leg pain, and general pelvic area issues (same sensations as last year prior to treatment). after 4 weeks of this pain and discomfort i decided to book an emergency appointment with my conultant instead of waiting till sept appointment. Which was today. She is happy with my progress and told me not to worry.

In the meantime I went to my doctors 3 days ago, as discussed and agreed with my consultant for HRT as it may help with my fatigue. My doctor asked lots of questions and I discussed my pains and discomfort in my pelvic and legs, he sent me to A&E for an emergency mri. Thank goddness it was clear of cancer.

I am so level headed the last 18 months or so, and cant believe my mind is playing tricks on me, the pain is real and i have been feeling so ill. I know everyone is different and reacts differently to all situations, however i was just wondering if anyone has had anything similar. Can the after effects of treatment make you into a hypochondriac. I have never really been to my doctors in my 50 years of life other than routine checks etc. I am really considering to see a consellor. or can anyone recommend a group i may be able to talk to.

Hugs and thank you for taking time to read this

xx

  • Hi Cathi,

I had stage 2A cervical cancer, had chemo and radiation(internal  & external). It is hard not to worry about every twinge, gurgle and sensation, believe me, I know.  But, as time goes by hopefully these feelings and fears will subside somewhat. I have been in therapy all along, and I am 5 years out from treatment.  My therapist has helped talk me through my fears.  I think what you are going through is normal post cancer treatment concerns.  And, if you neednto make an appointment with your doctor if you are having any issues or just want to talk things over, do it! I am still in contact with my oncologists and their staff.  I hope this helps - feel free to message me with any questions or if you need to talk.
