Triple Negative Breast Cancer

Nearing my four year clear from diagnosis of Triple Negative and having a major meltdown. Watching Celebrity Gogglebox and the very sad update on Alesha and one of the Gogglebox families mums comments "triple negative is not hormone receptive its a lottery" and she had that bloody 'your doomed' look on her face and that god awful feel sorry for her body language.

Stand Up To Cancer is really negative - where's the success stories? Where's the hope? Where's the money raised going to?

Feeling sad and angry today. If I'd have watched that being newly diagnosed I would be feeling defeated, its knocked me for 6, four years down this god awful rollercoaster ride.

  • Hi Jane, I have been diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer, grade3. Starting my chemo next week. I would say that is"nt anyone getting cancer of any type a lottery. None of us are given an overview of our lives in advance. Ignore the comments made by this person. Being positive has got to be far better than the doom and gloom type of people. Everyone is different. Pleased to hear you are close to your four year clear. Best wishes.

  • Hello JaneH and welcome to our forum.

I'm sorry to hear that watching Stand Up to Cancer made you feel down.

As far as hopeful and successful stories go, I thought the documentary 'A Summer To Save My Life' was very encouraging by showing how some patients are positively responding to cutting-edge immunotherapy treatment. Did you have a chance to see that one?

As for where the money raised goes, 100% of the money raised from the Stand up to Cancer campaign will support some of the best research teams in the UK who take developments in the lab and transform them into brand new tests and kinder treatments for cancer patients.

I hope this helps to lift your spirits a bit, but whenever you are feeling blue or in need of a chat, feel free to stop by. We're here to listen.

    Best wishes,

  • Yes, which is why I'm really disappointed Gogglebox let her comment be aired.

  • The only updated clips I saw were during the show. Both the updates were that the person died. This hit home to me because I'm a triple negative breast cancer patient and the response from one of the Gogglebox mums regarding triple neg was there was no hope... there is how and it would be nice if you could show this too. Was this 'a year to save my life' documentary about a triple negative breast cancer patient?

  • Hi Jane

Just started chemo for triple negative cancer, thanks for the heads up. I won't be watching it.....you're right we need positivity

    Sending you a hug

    Kerry

  • Good luck with your chemo, I made contact with a local lady to me who was diagnosed 10 years ago for triple negative..... there ARE positive results out there!!

  • Hi. I was diagnosed  with triple negative aggressive stage 3 nearly 8 years ago.

I still find it hard to watch any negative shows, films or sometimes books and magazines. It doesn't take much to make me feel down n ages to pick back up. It's took me 2 months to pluck courage up to book my routine mammogram the 1st one after being discharged 2 years ago.

To stay positive I surround myself in positive people and enjoy life to the full, even while at work.

  • I was diagnosed with TNBC stage 2 in November 2017 have had a lumpectomy and put on 12 weeks of chemo taxol once a week had a PICC line fitted. So far I have had 5 sessions with my 6th coming up. PICC line fitting was rather painful but I have a district nurse who comes every Tuesday to take blood and flush my line and every Wednesday I have the chemo. No real side effects so far just feel a bit nauseous in the morning but passes if I have something to eat or take an anti-sickness pill. My hair is starting to fall out a handful a day still have some hair and it looks ok for now but have a wig appointment before my 7th dose of chemo as they attend hospital to show wigs to match up to your colouring before chemo appointment is made through clinic. Anyway apart from the nausea and hair fall out I feel OK but did see a recent advert on TV about a young woman with children who had TNBC then died which did not make me feel good. I am 65 years old and am stage 2 TNBC trying to stay positive but was glad to hear about your outcome, was 50-50 about having chemo but thought would have as percentage of survival was slightly better with chemo then without so thought would fight on. Regards Carol
  • Hi Helen,

Your reply has given me so much hope, can I ask if you did anything special (like foodwise or supplements) that you felt were useful? xxx

  • I found out in sept I’ve got triple negative breast cancer stage 2. I’ve had 4 sessions of chemo and my cancer has gone from 17mm to 12mm. I reacted really bad to the chemo ended up in hospital very time. I’m having a lumpectomy in 3 weeks time and then 3 weeks of radiotherapy.
