Post Tamoxifen

Having a lot of trouble with my joints. Finished Tamoxifen in July. Anyone else had this happen?

  • Hi there, I haven’t had tamoxifen but I’m sure I remembered a few on here saying they had achy joints and very tired ... always good to have a chat with your oncology nurse and check with them if it’s normal or you can chat to the nurses on here or free phone McMillan ... hope that helps ... Hi mainbeam

A warm welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear about the trouble that you are having with your joints. I took Tamoxifen for a year before changing over to Letrozole. Almost immediately I started, I developed terrible pain in all my joints. The only answer seems to be anti-inflammatories, which I'm allergic to and pain killers which zombiefy you.

I took the latter for 6 years, until I developed severe side-effects to them too. I finished taking Letrozole in February this year and had hoped that the pain might subside, but unfortunately the opposite is true.

Can I ask what age you are? This might determine how mobile you can become again. Sadly I'm almost 70, so, barring miracles, I don't see any change for me. Why not diccuss this with your care team and see what they can suggest?

I hope that this pain settles down for you.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you whenever you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
