bad days

How do others deal with the bad days  like to tierd to get out of bed or just dont want to  start the day when in pain  dont want to eat or  see anyone  just dont want or even feel like doing stuff ?

  • Hi erzsebet

this is fairly common when you have cancer. Sometimes you need all your energy just to do the essential things to keep you going. However you may be suffering from depression, loss of appetite, loss of interest, withdrawal are all symptoms. Talk with your GP it is a treatable condition with medicine and cognitive behavioural therapy. Hope you can get on top of it, best wishes Kim

  • Thanks  i know these are all symtoms  i am a recovering cancer patiant i take medication  but not to the point i carnt do anything  and i was just wondering how others cope  and what they do i would much prefer not  to take lots of medecation

  • My dog got me through my bad days as no matter how bad I felt he still wanted a walk so it made me get up and do what was needed through there was days I got home and curled back up.

Just take it one day at a time. On my really bad days i set myself little goals even if it was just to walk around my street or to the local shop and also kept a diary and would rant and rave in it but it helped and now serves as a memento of how far I have come.

  • Hi i find my cat dose play a big part of  waking me up to be feed  we put acat flap to make things easy so i dident have to get up so much  in the night  i will try setting myself  some goals   thanks for  letting me know how you get through the bad days x

  • Hope things work out and if you need support off those around you ask or just a rant and rave then think this forum may help as sometimes it's easier to talk to strangers than friends x

  • I  dont like to talk to friends as i  see it upsets them  and my family always  tell me to rest to sit down and not to over do things  i get  fustrated when i  have to do nothing  because im not the sort of person to sit  and do nothing

  • Hi erzsebet

Sorry I did not realise that you are already having treatment. It sometimes feels like you'll never climb out of it when you are recovering. I would add to it to say the excercise bit is really important just like Sarah says even if its just a slow walk to the shop or post box. Also set your alarm clock and try to get up at your usual (pre cancer) time. Even if you then need a snooze mid morning. Try to get some breakfast even if its just one slice of toast and a cuppa. Listen to some happy music (sounds daft but it can lift your mood). Try to have a go at one of your interests, a crossword, craft or hobby even if it only occupies you a short while. Let people come and see you just for a short visit, I know it can be tiring but company is good for you, even if you are not keen on the contact with others. Kim
