Body image

I am 6 months post breast  reconstruction. But I struggle with my body image as  a) I don't like the appearance of reconstructed breast and b) my other breast is a very different size. I am struggling to come to terms with this. Also struggling to come to terms with diagnosis and get quite tearful. And I am a nurse so should understand more than anyone. Anyone else with the same problem?

  • Hi Jane,

I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling to come to terms with the appearance of your breast after reconstructive surgery. Any surgery which changes the appearance of your body will bound to have an impact on how you feel so it's completely understandable that you might be feeling rather emotional and struggling to come to terms with it so try not to be too hard on yourself if you can.

Many of our breast cancer members who have been in the same situation will understand what you're going through right now and I know they will be along soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you. In the meantime I have found this section on our website which gives information and advice on living with breast cancer surgery.

    I hope this helps.

    Wishing you all the best,
