My picture diary of a lumpectomy and Infection and hospital

Hi sounds a bit bizzar not my usual pictures i have in my fone but now my fone is full of breast pics before and after surgery and days after and recovery. some Look "ok" some look very sore from the infection but most of all it shows how neat a lumpectomy scar is ( and lymph nodes) from someone who had no stretch marks from child birth i did find it a little hard to see theses marks on my body that i never did ! but i keep reminding myself they are going to be the scars of a brave women ( one of many ) who have had breast cancer taken out of their body.

Im sure it will fade in time. I am really not that bothered about scars, I am single so no one sees my mammas anyway ! lol.

***INFECTION**

Its helped for me to take these pics as it got infected i could compare how it looked on day one to day 10 and in between. thankfully today about 18 days after op the infection is almost cleared after lots of antibiotics.

My advise to anyone having this done is if it looks red and its speading do not think its normal keep going back to your GP and you will most prob get refered back to hospital and expect a stay take an overnight back incase and they will have you in on a drip for a few days ( i went back twice doing this, not happy about it but the drips work better)  also don't put up with a painful canular in the front of your hand for days, i think the vein only takes so much and it becomes too sore the doc will remove to the other hand. Keep ontop of the pain killers and  ASK the nurses if you want help or something they are there all the time checking. this is no time to be a shy violet you have to speak up for yourself, If something is not right or your not happy about it  TELL THEM. all the nurses are lovely.

ALSO take earplugs !! or headfones and your charger OMG women snorers flipping heck never heard anything like it. I had 4 in my ward, at one point i asked could i go sleep in an empty room down the corridoor i managed 2 hours sleep before i had to get back out someone came in. It certainly makes you stop and think if you go in the 2nd time to have some basics ( toilet bag, pants, brush, books, mags, music, slippers, flip flops, your own towel, some take their own pillow, also a tablet for tv as not all have tvs and its pretty boring tbh !)

I applaude the nurses and docs they work very hard but boy was i glad to get home after 2 days and nights-

  • Hi suziesuze,

I'm glad to hear your lumpectomy went well and the antibiotics managed to get rid of the infection. It will be hard and take time to adjust to the appearance of your breast after surgery but like you said the scar is the mark of a very brave woman who has fought breast cancer.

I'm sure many of our members old and new will appreciate the account you've given of your experience and the advice you've provided for when you're in hospital as well. Please feel free to post any other thoughts you may have and do keep us updated on your recovery.

    Wishing you all the best,
