3yrs on

3yrs on and all clear but still  suffering  from  some  side  effects,  one  that  is  re occurring  is anemia.  Has anyone  else  had this  problem.  I had  2 forms of cancer, glass cell ovarian  cancer  and  uterine  cancer so don't  know  if it's  type  of treatment  I  had or where radiotherapy  was done. Just makes it hard as I  get  so tired  and can't  take medication,  awaiting  for a date for iron infusion.

  • Hi there, welcome to the forum. I'm sorry you are still having after-effects from your treatments after that long ago. It seems like you are paying a heavy price for being cancer free. I'm puzzled why you can't take iron supplements for your anemia. I've been very anemic since I had colon cancer back almost 6 years ago, but lately, since being on Feramax, my blood levels are coming back up. However, even though my colon cancer hasn't recurred, I now have bladder cancer and lung cancer, so the battle is ongoing. Obviously, your treatment team is setting you up for infusion, so they are aware of your iron deficioncy. It would be interesting to know though, why you can't take an oral medication for low blood. If you do get an answer to that, I would be very interested in knowing why that is. I'm soon going to receive treatment, (I don't know what treatment yet) but if its' radiation, perhaps I'll have to go off of my Feramax.

In any case, great that you are cancer-free now for 3 years and I certainly hope that continues for you. I do hope they get your anemia cleared up though because it sure tires you out.

    Take care.
