I've been on hormone therapy for nearly 2 years now & it obviously affects your body & libido.
I only have 2 more shots to go & i am wondering if the effects will wear off & i might get some of my sex drive back or should i just join a monastery???

Hi Pops,
I love your sense of humour regarding a monastery. I had prostate cancer over six years ago and had two years on hormone therapy (zoladex) and just after bieng diagnosed I was also founf to be diabetic, which also causes problems like you describe. I was told that once the hormones had flushed out of my system which I was told would take about a year, things would improve. But due to the double impact, things have in my case not improved. I know it's am embarassing subject but if you talk to the hospital or your doctor there is help available.
Some months ago I did write a thread entitled, "A taboo subject for men" which was centred around this delicate and for us men embarassing subject.
Hope this helps, Brian.
Welcome to the forum pops1956,
We have some useful information in our site on side effects of hormone therapy for prostate cancer. You can find out more about it here and don't hesitate also to ring our nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (it's a free phone call from UK landlines).
I just wanted to add to Brian's warm welcome that you can read his thread 'A Taboo Subject for Men' here and feel free to contribute in it too.
I think rather than joining a monastery (your joke did make us smile!), you did well to join Cancer Chat as you will meet people here like Brian who have had similar side effects and with whom you can talk very openly about this without ever having to feel shy about it.
Best wishes,
Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
Hi Brian, thanks for your info & i will read your thread which i'm sure will be most enlightning :)
Also i'll be seeing my Oncologist in a few weeks time & will speak to her about it, its only taken me 2 years to speak about it to some one, so the title of your thread is very apt
My friends are always telling me to be more open about things but i don't think i'll be discussing this subject with them just yet as i feel embarrased about it & thats one of the reasons i joined on here.
People understand what you are goinf through & can offer some info or just some encouragement :)
So thanks for your input Brian, i have a feeling we'ell be chatting again
Lawrence
Hi Lucie
Thanks for the welcome its much appreciated
I must admit i'm glad i did join & wish i had sooner, but things get in the way sometimes ;)
But of course you are right it's good to be able to talk to someone who's in the same situation
Oh & by the way i didn't get into the Monastery, they said i was too noisy lol
Lawrence
Very funny Lawrence about the monastery! You can be as loud as you want here :D
Enjoy the forum!

My father has just been told he has advanced prostrate cancer and as he is 88 there will be no surgery or chemo but he is getting hormone replacement. Ironic he is getting testosterone reduced via the therapy and I have to get injection and Viagra to replace mine
