middle ear cancer

hello everyone my mother aged 75 had a 12hr operation to remove cancer from her middle ear and surrounding area up to the lining of the brain apparently its quite rare,they took fat from the upper thigh to fill the left side of her face,the scar on her leg is healing great,but her walkingnow is not,she has a zimmer frame a stick and i take her out in a wheelchair cuz she cannot walk far,she said her leg does not feel like her leg and is so very weak,we know its early days yet but shes so frustrated as  shes was so active before the surgery does anyon know how long it will take for her leg to get back to near normal after this surgery..

  • Hi Maggie, welcome to the forum. I'm not familiar with your Mom's type of cancer, or the surgery she had. I would expect that there would be some recovery time however, so its' possible she needs more time. If you and your Mom are concerned though, you should perhaps check with her doctor to see if this is normal, or if perhaps she should be seen. It does sound like a pretty major surgery though.

    I'm sure your Mom is also struggling with her inability to do the things she used to be able to do before, so likely that's not helping any. Come back on here and let us know how things go with your Mom, or to get support for her and yourself from others here on the forum. Your Mom is very fortunate to have you there with her. Do you have other family members that can be of some help as well?
