Introduce myself

Hi I'm Caroline age 53 had breast cancer in august last year, had mastectomy and reconstruction in sept. Was put tamoxifen do not need chemo or radiotherapy. Have just gone back to work and I'm finding it very hard people at work are great, I'm so tired after shift, I go home and sleep for an hour.I am on reduced hours each week.I find myself crying sometimes when no one around as I dont want to upset my family who I keep telling im fine.

  • Hi Caroline,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. With regards to the crying I believe one of the side effects of tamoxifen is mood swings. I had hormone therapy (zoladex) for prostate cancer and mood swings are a side effect too.

I found that every now and then when I heard or read something sad or even something good, I would have tears forming and on the odd occasions, they would run down my face. As a man, I found this very embarassing and used to try and hide this from my wife by feingning a big yawn. Probably didnt fool her for you ladies are not easily fooled.

I found I had not control over it and just last week I spoke to a lady who has the same problem but who didnt know mood swings were a side effect of tamixifen. With regard to tirdeness, you have had a massive life changing experiance so it's not surpriding you feel as you do. Hoping that this helps, Take care, best wishes for a full recovery, Brian.
