My Journey Continues

Hi all my forum buddies.  Just wanted to post on a new thread as it is more relevant than where my journey began.  Hope to see you here. Jules

  • Hi Jules,

Mrs B is making me some cheese straws for Easter so will  look forward to eating them. Bang goes my diet but what the heck ha ha.

When I took Mrs B out for that ride, My low oil pressure switch packed up. It is the third time its gone wrong and seem to only happen when I go the way we went the other day. It probably only coincidence but Mrs B say perhaps we shouldt go that route again.

So I cant take Mrs B out like I was hopping to do. I will have to get the car in the garage agin next week. I allready have the next two months newws letter pretty well finished.

Hope you have a great weekend and looks like it will be a nice day for your walks. Sending kind thoughts you way. Wishing you and your family a very happy Easter, Brian

  • Hi Brian,

Happy Easter to you and Mrs B.  Sorry to hear of your repeat car woes.  A nuisance and an expense you could have done without.  Don't blame Mrs B for suggesting a different route next time!!

Enjoy those cheese straws.  I had a hot cross bun for my breakfast treat today and have just returned from a five mile walk through some of London's parks (spur of the moment decision as the weather so wonderful when I left the gym). Couple of shots below from my first stop!

Have the artisan market locally to look forward to tomorrow and another walk if my legs are up to it ha ha.

  • Hi Jules,

Tidied up my woodstore in my garage yesterday and boy was I tiered afterwards But it has made a lot more room. I can now stand in front of my grindstone. I had a piece of triangular shaped wood about 6 inches long but I just dont know where I have put it I want to use it as the roof for my next watermill. So Will have to cut another piece. I now have turned the bodies for 15 cats, all I have to do is to put eyes noeses ears and whiskers on them. I have ordered some white fishing line for the whiskers which should look much better than the black corded line I used before.

There is still a lot oftimber in my garage that needs putting through my planer. Its mostly the bearers of off the pallettes i got when I was working.

Hope work has not been to busy this week. Take care, Brian

Cant get my car repaired until next Wednesday but it is okay to use it for short distances until then.

  • Hi Brian,

Third attempt at trying to post due to outages in the internet because of high winds. Thankfully no other damage that I have seen so far although there is still a weather alert in place and it is a wet start this morning.

Pleased you have managed to re-organise your wood store/shed area which will certainly make it easier for you to assess your stock and spend more happy hours turning etc.  I love that first visit back into somewhere you have 'spring cleaned' as it is a feel sense of achievement.

Had a last minute invite out to lunch/shop yesterday so nipped to the gym as soon as it opened and then we set off just after 10.a.m.  This was with my daughter in law's Mum so we also popped into see the family en route (she had left her slippers behind whilst childminding there the day before!!) and had a coffee and a cuddle of course. We then went to the retail outlet and were sad to find out that our favourite shoe outlet is having to close due to roof problems/rent rise. As they go in July we had a good look round and I am now stocked up with new work shoes, summers sandals and a pair of lighter walking trainers. Always cut price there but an added 20% off  for their 'closing down' sale. Unfortunately there is not another branch in our area and we felt really sorry for their staff who are now facing job loss.  In the gardening area we both  bought a few bits and I managed to get three new ground cover plants and a shrub to fill some gaps and also a ready planted container for outside the back door.  We also had a light lunch before heading back home in mid afternoon.  I managed to do half the planting before the rain arrived so will have to wait for a gap in the weather to get the largest shrub in.

Hope you have a pleasant weekend and stay safe during Storm Hannah.  Best regards to you and the family.  Jules

  • Hi Jules

Hope you had a good weekend. Glad you had no damage from the storm. It will be a chilly walk to see your mun if its the same as here.

My car goes into the garage tommorow, for repairs. We have a fox who keeps coming round the front of the houses. I have seen it three times now but have not been able to get a photo as yet. Great big long bushy tail so must be in good condition. Our grandaughter has now gone back to Uni on Sunday. I have a wood club committee meeting on Thursday evening. We need to discuss the 30 minute  Video we hope to make so we can use it to advertise our club.

It is quite chilly here today so not sure if I will venture out into my garage. I need to finish of the 15 cats I have tiurned. There is not much to do to finish them off.

I managed to get some coconut macaroons when out shopping this morning so I will be my usual nutty self ha ha.

Sending kind thoughts to you and your family, Brian

  • Hi Jules,

Just picked my car up.The mechanic said he had managed to get the part replaced as it was still under a year ago it was replaced and wouldnt charge me for the fitting of it which I thought was very decent of him. They are good lads where I go and I know I can rely on them.

I have got a hole in the end of the exhust pipe so will book that in foe a few weeks time.

    Take care , Brian

  • Hi Brian,

Quick catch up before leaving for work.Very pleased your car has been sorted out and not as expensive as you may have thought. Quite right too that being under a year old the part was replaced for free.  Hubby was lucky that most repairs he could do himself which saved a few bob over the years!

No rain here so far though so supposed to come today.  Have had to water in my new plants but the garden is looking remarkably green.  I dont generally water the garden at all but the new plants obviously need to be 'settled in'.  My yellow rose in the front garden is just coming into flower which is a bit earlier than usual.

Hope you managed to get back out to work on your cats.  Although a little cooler of late have not required to put the heating on indoors and bills have been less this quarter than the same period last year  which is a bonus. Outlook for the rest of the week looks pretty changeable so will have to see how I fit my walks in around the showers.  No firm plans but the Farmers'Market is on during Sunday plus a 1939 themed Bank Holiday Monday at our local Great Barn so may go along for a look.

Have a pleasant week ahead and hope you, Mrs B and the family are keeping well.  Jules

  • Hi Jules,

Have just had 12 stawberry plants delivered and we got 50 free double freesia bulbs so have been out and planted them this morning in pots for Mrs B. They were my mothers favorite flower. Stawberry plants didnt look that good but have plenty of roots so will keep fingers crossed they pick up.

Had a very good committee meeting the other night for the wood club and got lots of things done. We have a very good committee who all do a lot of work behind the scene.

There is quite a cold wind blowing this morning so dont think you will be able to sit out in your garden today. Had two Blackbirds having a right sqabble in our back garden today. This went on for about 15 minutes. Ariel fighting as well as chasing each other round the garden.

Am going to try and experiment with using used plastic bottles. I have cut then roughly in halve and will put soil in the bottom part and plant some seeds in it. Then will put the top part back on and see if they will act as miniture greenhouses. Will have to take the screw caps of when watering Will let you know if it works.

The radishes I planted in my plastic cloch have grow much quicker than those outside of it.

I wish you a relaxing weekend and am sending kind thoughts to you and your family, Brian

  • Hi Brian,

Will keep my fingers crossed that the strawberry plants pick up and produce well.  Freesias are my Mum's (and one of my) favourites and we both had them in our wedding bouquets. Beautiful scent to cut and bring indoors too. I am sure recycling the plastic bottles and using as seed trays will work as this is something we did when the children were young (pinprick holes in the bottom for drainage ) and indeed helpful to pop the top on as protection at night too.  I bought three new plants on a recent visit to the garden centre and plan to get them planted later which hopefully will fill the space now that the tulips are finished flowering.  My daughter has harvested the first of the radishes and my youngest grandson very happy to be photographed holding one in each hand.......the first produce from their new allotment.

Back end of my garden unaccessible at the moment as my neighboiur once again has had a go at finishing his fencing (lots of ivy/greenery to remove and not proving as simple as he thought)!!  Was out all day Sunday and came home to garden debris and old bits of his fence on my side .  Needless to say nothing done since and will have to get him to climb over the rubbish to get my mower out of the garage if not cleared up by end of the week!

My day out in Greenwich was lovely and did not feel too chilly by the time I had walked up the hilly Greenwich Park.  Five miles covered during the day and is helping with my steady weight loss so very pleasing to have enjoyed myself and reaping the benefits.

Popped to see Mum as usual this morning and thankfully had my book with me as she was sleeping for the whole of my visit.  I am sure a lot of this is due to the pain relief meds but better to be at rest rather than in pain bless her.

Sunny here just now so hopefully will get outside after lunch. Hope you and MrsB have a pleasant week.  Best regards, Jules

  • Hi Jules,

Hope you are now able to access the back of your garden. I have just bout a four shelf mini green-house. I didnt get a lot of time to fill it up yesterday as I had to take my car in to get a new rear exhust pipe fitted (The car not me by the way) When I went to pick the car up there was a big black cloud on the horizon and it was a question who got to the garage first. I just about made it and it started pouring with rain, but did my legs ache as its all up hill from where I live. Car is nice and quite once more.

I have also got some more seeds coming. They dont come in printed packets but are good quality and only 99p a pack in most cases and you also get many more seeds than normal in the foil packets. Had another club night on Wednesday and was a good evening. Getting near to our show now so gave a quick talk about it at the club night.

Has your fox visited your garden lately? we have one that visits the front of our house quite often. Yesterday someone was walking thier dog and he just sat down until they had passed and then he walked boldly across the front of our garden. Just couldnt get a picture of it as it was gone so quickly

Hope you have a good weekend,Sending kind thoughts to you and yoyr family, Brian
