My Journey Continues

Hi all my forum buddies.  Just wanted to post on a new thread as it is more relevant than where my journey began.  Hope to see you here. Jules

  • Hi Brian

Great that you have another new member for the club and that you can share your craft.  With your story writing in full swing it sounds as though the colder months will still see  you busy.

No mowing needed here as so very dry and lawn pretty patchy. No doubt it wont be long before the weather will change all that!  It is amazing to think we are now in October and as yet the fire is not required. That will help with the bills too.

Had the news yesterday that our branch manager of 15 years has finally had enough of the stress of retail pressures and has resigned so will leave at the end of next month. He has been with the company 38 years but so much has changed in that time.  I will definitely miss the support he has shown me during the most difficult of times but wish him all the best in finding a new path. We are planning to bring our usual Christmas meal forward so that his leaving do will be one for him to remember (not that we have many staff these days!!).

Hope you and Mrs B are having a pleasant week and enjoying the weekend's purchases.  My  nan used to have apple trees in her garden as well as growing other fruits/veggies and can remember receiving cox's apples and rhubarb through the post.....packed in shoe  boxes!!  When we visited (rarely) I do remember podding peas on her back doorstep and washing them under the outside tap (no running water inside her cottage).  Regards to you both and the family.  Jules

  • Good morning Jules,

Hope work has not been to hard this week but at least you are back to your normal times this week.

I have just downloaded some more quotes, most of the comical ones. Thats if I can find where they are ha ha. I only picked up one bag of chestnuts this morning but two more bags jumped up into the trolley so I reckon they all came from the same tree and must be related and didnt want to be parted. At least thats what I triedto tell Mrs B but I am sure she didnt believe me he he.

Will spend the afternoon printing out my latest storys (I have for to print) and will then bind them with my home made jigs. Thats if I can remember how I did it last time. The other chap who started the club up wants me to give him copies as he likes reading them and is a good proof reader.

My son loaded a new game on to his computer a couple of nights ago and couldnt get it to work. Mt youngest grandson was watching out the corner of his eye. My son eventually deleted the game and tried again with still no luck. Mt grandson then said, "Oh you old wrinkley you still dont know what to do". Apprently he just tapped a few keys and got it going just like that. My son said "did you know this all along". He Nodded. So my son said "why didnt you help me earlier", to which he replied,"Because it was fun watching you struggle. You old people just dont know how to do it. My son said yes but dont forget it was people my age who invented the computer and he replied yess but its us young ones who have perfected them I am now the IT in mighTY. My son says he has an answer to evertying these days and just loves a good wind up. Not like his granddad at all he he

Just sent this months newsletter out and its a seven page instead of the usual five page edition. . So I am starting work on Novembers one allready.

Sending kind thoughts to you and your family, Brian

  • Hello George,

Havent heard from you for a while so just posting to ask how you are. Hope you are well and Ris is still taking you for thos lovely walkies. We have some neighbours with dog and who never ever take them for walks, which I think is mean. Gogs just love going for walkies.

Anyway take care my friend and best wishe you you and your familyincluding Ria, Brian

  • Hi Brian,

Sounds like it will be a particularly nutty weekend in your house.  Bet you would love to see a 3 for 2 notice under your favourites!!

Though you are ready to print out your latest stories and let a club member enjoy them, it is a shame they are not out there for a wider audience.  No doubt the ideas keep coming so keep up the good work.  The format sounds as though it would be a great idea for the 'Quick Read' titles they bring out for adults alongside the World Book Day titles for children.

Can definitely relate to the conversation between your son and grandson over the technology issue. Children today grow up with the technology and definitely are well clued up on how things work...........sometimes frightingly so!!  Part of my 10 year old grandsons time table is 'Coding' and writing computer programmes and the 5 year old is expected to know how to use a tablet. My daughter and son in law have always limited time on such items as the boys love being outside and she and my son in law have just finished making a complete viking outfit with the eldest boy which they all enjoyed and very good it will look too.

As tomorrow is looking the better day weatherwise am hopeful of getting a longer walk in; just not sure where yet!

Hope  you and Mrs B have a pleasant weekend.  Jules

  • Hi Jules,

Not the sort of afternoon for your walks, but hope it will be better tommorow afternoon.

Have spent most of the day transferring 27 short mini stories that are only 2 to 3  A5 pages long to my book printing program as I am making the stories into one book. While doing it I have also edited them into a book of 77 A5 pages.

Have also been tidying up my story folders for I have one, stories new ides, another for stories under constuction and another one for the finished stories.

Started printing on Thursday and ran out of black ink . My spare cartridge wouldnt work so Ive have to get another one which arrived today.

Hope you enjoy your walk tommorow. Best wishes, Brian

  • Hi Brian

Yes the weather on Saturday curtailed my walking to around the shops.  Made up for it on Sunday though as it was a beautiful day for a stroll around the park and also a visit to Covent Garden.  So glad I mowed the lawn on Friday!!

No doubt all your book printing completed once new cartridge arrived. I also need to get new printing inks as need to print out holiday details for next year... Still no rush yet.

Visited Mum for nearly an hour but she slept through it all so staff will let her know I popped in.  Back to work tomorrow, typically supposed to be the warmest day of the week.  Hopefully my long handled bulb planter will arrive as my tulips have now been delivered and I have rather a lot to get in over the coming week or so (sharing the order with my son and daughter to lighten my load ha ha).

Have a pleasant week with Mrs B and hope your grand-daughter is settling in at Uni.  No doubt you will have fun catching up when she visits home (Christmas perhaps?).  Regards  Jules

  • Hi Jules,

Still not caught up on my printing as yet as the new catridge arrived and my laptop still say, defective cartidge, just the same as the spare one I had. Have been on to my supplier who have told me what to do but it still wont work Grrr so will have to call them again.

I used to get my chestnuts from the greengrocer who had a stall in the market in town.. I found out he closed some weeks ago. But I found out he has a shop in a nearby town so I went there and got some from him. They are much better than Mr Tesco ones and 2 to 3 times the size. Very tasty too ha ha.

We have primroses in flower and our rhodedendron is also in bloom. Our free begonias have put more colour in our garden than we had during the summer. Roses are still blooming as is our Fushia. One of my China Rose radishes is really growing big and there are several others trying to catch up.so all looking good.

I took a couple of photos of the sunset the other night which I will post below along with some of the begonias.

Hope your visit to your mum went okay and you enjoyed your time at the gym. Bet it wont be long before you start to get all the allbums in before long. Must be a busy time for you. It is surpising how heavy books can be.

By the time you get to read this your work shift should have ended for the week so I hope you have an enjoyabke weekend. Kind thoughts being sent your way, Brian.

  • Hi Brian

How frustrating for you that your printer is playing up. Hope it gets sorted soon and know you will get your head round it with some back up help.

Wonderful pictures of the sunset (have been some lovely ones in recent evenings here too) and your gorgeous flowering plants.  It is lovely having late colour in the garden.  This weekend looks very mild but with some showers forecast so no sure if I will be able to start my bulb planting upon my return. Will be staging the planting anyway so as to hopefully get a succession of colour rather than all in one go.  My long handled planter aid arrived on Wednesday so no excuses now!

My work shifts went well this week helped somewhat by extra staff on the shopfloor as the Christmas set up is under way.  Mind you the annuals have been on sale since the end of August and many customers already have their seasonal shopping underway.

Visit to Mum was pretty much usual routine now.  She slept through it but is still taking small meals at regular intervals and the pain relief and care of the staff continues to keep her comfortable thankfully. Perhaps she is fortunate that sleep is easy for her now.

Seeing long term friends over the next couple of days and very much looking forward to catching up with them and will be putting plans together for a get-together when we both attend a Christmas meal in Marlow in mid December. Hubby loved this time of year.

Wishing you a peaceful, chestnutty weekend.  Regards to you, Mrs B and the family.  Jules

  • Good morning Jules.

Had a blood test on Monday for my diabetes and psa. Good news on all fronts I'm pleased to say. My psa has only increased very slightly but still lower than a year ago so I am very pleased with that. My diabetic review was also very good. Even my weight was a little lower than last time.

Mrs B is joining you in bulb planting as she bought a big bag of dafdills from tesco's on Thursday. I made a wooden planter earlier this year from some left over timber and tried to grow my radishes in it but its too small so have given it over to Mrs B. As the timber is treated I have just got to make a plastic linner for it and to re-fill it with soil.

Still havent had time to get back to sorting out my printer problems as have had other things to do but am now well advanced with my next story..

Hope you are enjoying time with your friends this weekend. Mrs B is busy making an apple pie as we both love eating them.

Hope you are able to get out for your Sunday cosititional

Wishing you a great weekend ,Brian

  • Hi Brian,

Delighted that your latest blood tests continue to show you are doing well. Always a relief I am sure once the results are back.

No time to start planting my bulbs yet and now today it is throwing the rain down at present so can only look into the garden rather than work in it.  I do hope to split the bulbs between the borders and some tubs I haave in the front garden as well as sharing my order with my two children so hopefully we will all benefit from some Spring colour.  The wooden planter you made sounds as though it will be very  handy for the 'second option' once the liner goes in.

As walking would not be very pleasant this morning I will just go to the gym and the local farmers' market and then catch the bus back.  If it dries up latter (doubtful looking at the forecast for the next 24hrs) I will go out again later.

Will  be my daughter's youngest son's 5th birthday tomorrow but as he will be at school we are taking him out next weekend so hope the weather picks up for that but it will be a weekend of quality time again with the family and all being well my son and family will also come along.

Keep up the good work with your stories and fingers crossed the printer problem is soon resolved.  Now to give you a reason to chuckle when it comes to my technology skills.  Before I went away I was happily e-mailing when the screen 'died' and it switched off.  As I have been having a few 'blue screen'glitches in the last couple of months (this is how my last laptop met it's demise) I initially thought 'here we go again'. Left it for a bit, used the 'air spray' and went out.  When I came back thought I would check it out before thinking about researching a replacement and..................wait for it (you may have guessed by now).......... it was not plugged in so the battery had run down completetly!!!!!  Needless to say and somewhat thankfully all is well again at present.  What a wally comes to mind:D

Wishing you and the family a peaceful Sunday.  Jules
