My Journey Continues

Hi all my forum buddies.  Just wanted to post on a new thread as it is more relevant than where my journey began.  Hope to see you here. Jules

  • Hi Brian, just wanted to wish you and Mrs.B all the very best for the upcoming few days, sending you both lots of hugs.. Take care of each other. Sue x

  • Hi Sue,

Thank you for your kind thoughts. I have the funeral of my wood club friend today and brother in law on Monday. I have also just heard of the death of another lady who used to on one of the cancer committees I am on. She did so much hard work for Macmillan. This **** cancer has taken so many good people. On a brighter note, My dad is still fighting on and has once again proved the medics wrong. Just so proud of him and even my son said "He aint going to go until he's good and ready".

Thanks again, especially as you have problems of your own, Brian

  • Hi Brian

Just before I leave to care for the granchildren today, I wanted to let you and Mrs B know that I will be thinking of you as you remember those you have lost. Take care.Jules x

  • Hi Jules, hope you've had a good day with your grandchildren and that your daughter got on ok at her appointment today?

Had thought Mrs.Yappy would be away again this weekend but it looks like she's here after all...Grr!

Good start to the week with the roof visit, their quote arrived yesterday so fingers crossed that can get started shortly. Ended the week with a burst tyre on my way home tonight although I have say the AA man was brilliant. He arrived within 30 minutes of my call, towed the car to a garage then gave me a lift home. My nice neighbour will give me a lift tomorrow morning to collect it so although not the sort of thing you want after a busy week, at least it was easily sorted out. Will be playing with tape again tomorrow so watch this space for more antics!

Will be thinking of you over the weekend and I hope the christening goes well for you all.

    Take care  Sue xx

  • Hi Brian, I hope today went as well it could and that you both have a restful weekend before Monday's ordeal. So sorry to hear of your committee friend too. As you say, this **** disease does seem to prey on all the the good folk. Glad to hear your Dad is proving everyone wrong at the moment though, no wonder you are proud of him.   Take care Sue

  • Hi Sue

Sorry for delay in replying - got somewhat sidetracked with 'awful' day at work yesterday which left me a bit down for a while but back up to speed today and the cheeky faces of the grandchildren always a pleaser!  Daughter did well with the travelling - left home at mid day and was home by just after 4. Scan done and now the wait begins for the neurologist review appointment to come through. We are impressed at how thorough they have been.  Now she has christening followed by half term hols for eldest grandson to look forward to.  Looks like I may be going to Legoland next week for a fun day out!

Have just spent nearly two hours trying to book tickets for the BBC Good Food/Cakes and Bakes Show and finally got it sorted  - technology grr. Am treating my daughter to a day out and have booked 'seats' for the Paul Hollywood/Mary Berry 'theatre demonstrations' - hope they provide tasters.

Having read your posts I am thinking that Mrs Yappy and her dog could do with some of that tape but am sure you will benefit more ha ha. Practice makes perfect so they say so better luck this time though laughing a good release mechanism.

Cannot have been a pleasant experience having the tyre let go but pleased all okay and that the AA man was a 'very nice man'.  Also good  news re roof so sounds like all under control. Hope after an eventful week you have a relaxing weekend. Am hoping mine goes smoothly. Take care. Jules x

  • Hi Jules, can totally sympathise about bad work days, you give 100% and yet come away exhausted and so frustrated by it all. So glad the grandchildren did the job of cheering you up. I don't have children myself, when I was married we were living and working in various places across America so starting a family was not an option at that point and we split up fairly quickly anyway. I do however have neices and nephews and there are a lot of babies around at work too at the moment. Not the same as having your own of course but at least I get some oohing & aahing!

Hope your daughter doesn't have to wait too long for her results. As is often said on this site, it's the waiting that can be so frustrating.

Well done for persevering with the tickets and I hope you all have fun at Legoland next week.

Good thinking about using the tape on Mrs.Yappy and her dog. I should have thought of that last night when it (the dog, not the neighbour) woke me up by having a prolonged barking competition with another noisy canine!

Will be out in the garden shortly as my Mum bought a load of plants and has one for me too so am trying to decide where to put it.

Take care over the weekend and I hope it all goes well, will be thinking of you.  Sue xx

  • Hi Jules and Sue,

Thanks for the kind words regarding the funeral. We had quite a few member from our club attend and it was a good service. I heard things I didnt know about him and at one point they gave the nickname our club had given him, "Woodworm Willie". He got this name when we found he had got woodworm on one of his turnings. They also spoke of the commeraderie he had with our club members. As we were leaving I told his five grandchildren, (the two youngest ones were looking near to tears) of a trick he played on me. At one exhibition he must have got hold of one of my empty crisp packets. As another member was demostrating carving, he filled my empty packet up with these wood chips and after sealing the bag up with sealotape, when I wasnt looking put it back on my stand. I was puzzelled as I was convinced I had eaten all my crisps. I opened up the packet and found it full of woodshaving and heard him laughing. I told them, "I never did get my own back on him for that one". This made them all laugh. I also told them how proud he was of all of them for whenever I met up with him he was always telling me of their varios achievments.

I went up town today and to my great delight, found those large chestnuts had come down in price by 25%. Yippee, was my first thought but then I realized I didnt have my wallet with me so I couldnt buy any. GRRRRR so will re-visit on Wednesday, for at 25% cheaper, I can buy more for my money ha ha. Mrs B has told everyon she is coping okay regarding the loss of her brother. Not sure this is true as she has gone low at least five times in the last few days. Whenever she feels under stress (no wonder living with me) she always has problems with her diabetes. Luckily once she had had a sugary drink and something to eat, she soon comes round providing it's caught in time. But she always feels so tired afterwards.

Jules I hope you enjoy your walk tommorrow morning and hope its not raining.

Sue I hope you have found somewhere you to put your plant

I wish you both a pleasant Sunday, take care, Brian.

  • Hi Brian, glad to hear the service went well for your friend and that the other members joined in too. Loved the tale you told his grandchildren of the wood chip crisps.. Sounds like he shared your mischievious sense of humour and I'm sure they appreciated a funny story on such a sad day.

Look after yourselves and I will be thinking of you both on Monday.  Sue xx

  • Hi Sue

Hope you got your plant in!

Absolutely no time for gardening here this last couple of days. Sister in law has now left but the weekend was quite good and we had a lotting of catching up of news to exchange.  It did feel strange having someone in the spare room again but got through it okay.

Zack's Christening was lovely and all went well (no crying and he was very good indeed). Small buffet afterwards and then back home to cook a roast and enjoy some tv time.  Sister in law left with me when I set off for work as she was going to spend some time in London shopping before getting the train to Garwick.  She  hopes to come over again next May and may be able to spend another couple of days with me (she will come over by ferry and  bring her car next time so she can visit a few friends as well as popping over to France as part of her old twinning association links.

Well, weather looking good for Legoland. Popped to see Mum after work today as I wont have time tomorrow, Took her some new nightwear and then she was back off to sleep so did not stay long.

Hope you doing okay and that the strapping is helping.  Take care  Jules x
