Hi all my forum buddies. Just wanted to post on a new thread as it is more relevant than where my journey began. Hope to see you here. Jules
Hi Jules,
When I took Mrs B shopping this morning as we were going past the greencrocers stall I saw something that made my eyes pop out on stalks, just like you see on the cartoons, ha ha. CHESTNUTS. I have just finnished eating some and they were very tasty. Though they are not supposed to give weight gain, when they did their calculation, they did not allow for the amount I eat, ha ha.
The post about double dose of bad news was posted from my new tablet, the first time I have tried posting from it. I had written it out three times on my laptop and lost it each time just as I had finnished it. GRRRRR. I have also put in three short cuts so I can access sites like this much quicker now.
Thanks for the support and kind words you have given on my other thread, Brian.
Hi Jules, great idea about a treasure chest for keeping my patience in. I'm going to need more than a 5p bag after my nurse chat today. I described what was happening re the painful swelling and straight away she recognised it as being oedema and is going to refer me on to a lymhoedema clinic. Sounds good doesn't it? I thought so too, until she said the NHS referal time is at least six months!! She is however also going to send me some details for a private specialist so I have my fingers crossed that the lottery wins come in sooner rather than later! In the meantime, I shall keep popping the painkillers and I will learn to be patient, I will learn to be patient, I will learn..... have just bought some Kalms too just in case my new mantra needs a helping hand!
Sorry you had a battle with the door locks, though it sounds like you found a nice bod to do it for you as he saved a bit by refitting the botton one. I had the same issue a year or so ago but, not being sensible like you, I just keep the dodgy top lock on the latch all the time and only use my lovely old fashioned "proper" lock. Not the best security but what the heck.
Can just imagine the slanging match over the radio, my Mum and her husband are the same with the TV, even though as they have more than one in the house they could easily each watch whatever they choose. Mind you, that would probably confuse the dog as who would she sit by in the evenings?!
Take care Sue xx
Hi Brian,
Seems like you have really got the hang of your new tablet now but am sorry that your first post from it was such a sad one.
Hope the picture below brings a small smile, just think Chestnuts! Take care Sue x
Hi Brian
So the new 'nutty' season is here and Sue has found a lovely image to go with your Chestnut excitement. It is so important to have those good times when going through difficult times. The supermarket/greengrocers will see more of the chestnut man I am sure during what it a very short season. A sure sign that despite the mild temperatures we are definitely Autumnal.
Me and many of your forum friends will be thinking of you, Mrs B and the family as we understand your sadness and offer support to a lovely man who has offered help to so many both on the forum and in all your cancer work. Life can be so cruel at times.
You are doing well with your new tablet and sounds as though the lap top will be forced into retirement soon. Take care dear friend. Jules x
Oh Sue, cannot believe that having recognised the problem causing your pain you were then 'waved away' by the news that it could be six months before a referral appointment would possibly come through and that you will have to continue pill popping to control the symptoms. Blood boiling here that if you could go private all would be sorted asap - have heard it before sadly!! Am wondering if your own GP could add his weight behind the referral with his own urgent request - surely not too much to ask. Did your nurse have any other ideas as to how to cope especially as you have another op looming. To be honest have no idea how this oedema would normally be 'treated' and am sure if you have further questions the nurses on this site could offer a listening ear.
On a lighter note love the cartoon you have posted of the new look Brian now that chestnuts are in season again - it gave me an early morning chuckle and am sure he will appreciate it, We all need these lighter moments to help us through difficult times.
As regards the door locks, its like I have a new door ha ha. Just have to remember I no longer need to bang the door to get it to 'connect'. Will keep Mr Insurance man happy too though my purse suffered in the short term. The locksmith reckons locks are supposed to last a good six years! If that's the case The previous one deserved it;s retirement ha ha. (about 10 years since door was changed!!).
Lovely dawn here this morning and a return of the sunshine on its way though with the night temps falling away to single figures the gas fire may have to go on soon. Not yet wortth putting it on for the couple of hours I am here in the mornings on my work days but I have added a cardigan to my short sleeved work blouse whilst indoors - needs must!!
Following your mention of your Mum and her husband confusing the dog if they were in different rooms watching TV perhaps this is why the two cats (also resident at the care home) run randomly between the three different lounges. There are two TV lounges (v. large and quite small) with different channels showing. The third lounge (overlooking the beautiful gardens) has the radio and my Mum has always chosen to sit in this one. The residents can also have their own tv/possession in their bedrooms if they wish (Mum chooses not to bother watching it at all).
Well another morning ramble and need to do a bit of housework before I go to work today (do not feel like doing it after I have spent nearly six hours on my feet).
Take care of yourself Sue; you know your body best and though resting/sleeping may be frustrating I am sure you must need it to give you some relief from the pain you are experiencing. Hope that the appointment is not as far away as the Nurse anticipates. Sending hugs. Jules xx
Hi Sue,
Thank you so much for the EYE POPPING cartoon. I had a real good chuckle over that. Just what the doctor ordered for laughter is good medicine and is free.
Hi Jules,
Glad you managed to get your Lock problem sorted. I know of a carpenter who was fitting a new bathroom door years ago. It was early afternoon when he started and had got the door hung on its hinges and had just fitted a new latch when nature called. He had the bathroom window open and a gust of wind suddenly the bathroom door slamed shut. He didnt think anything of until he tried to get out. He hadnt fitted the handles on so he ended up locked in the loo until the lady got home from work at about 5.30. He told me he sat on the loo waiting and as a result still had the ring mark on his rear for 24 hours afterwards.
Thank ladies for the kind words, Brian.
Hi Brian,
With all that you and Mrs.B are going through at the moment, you deserve so much more than a chuckle. As Jules has said, we are thinking of you both and all the family... Sue x
Morning Jules,
Yeah, it's Friday! Not sure if this is one of your work days but, if so, hope it is not too hectic for you.
From what I can gather the treatment for oedema is a particular kind of regular gentle massage which encourages the excess fluid to drain away. Have looked it up on t'internet I will give it a go myself whilst waiting for the infernal referral! Another tip is to wear a sports bra for extra support so once the shoulder is sorted out I can hopefully try that too. Haven't got much faith in my GPs to help, they are serioulsy overworked and seemingly disinterested in anything outside the ordinary. Went on Wednesday for a top up of painkillers and also asked for something to relieve mild cystitis. Once home, discovered she had given me powders for diarrhoea! Luckily have a friendly chemist at my local Tesco so got the right thing from them instead. You have to laugh?!
Ooops, time is a'ticking and I need to get going, will catch up more later.
Take care Jules Sue xx
Hi Sue,
No, at the moment I only do Mon, Wed, Thurs so get a long weekend which is handy if I want to visit friends overnight.
Can understand your feelings regarding GP - sounds a bit dippy!! Water problems are bad enough without wishing you the alternative!! Not sure if it would be any help but I used to suffer with cystitis quite a bit (especially whilst pregnant!) and my midwife (obviously many moons ago) told me to take a teaspn of bicarb of soda in large glass of squash (to help with the taste) as soon as noticed a 'wee' problem two or three times a day which really helped to 'flush' the system before it reached 'agony' levels, when chemist or doc intervention needed. Hope you problem clears quickly now that chemist has helped out.
Had fun yesterday when my kitchen cupboard door decided to let me know the units really do need updating (secondhand 38 yrs ago); ended up holding it before letting it fall to the ground (wall unit!!!). I now have an open plan cupboard. Not such a bad thing as it has made me re-organise the contents and the local charity shop is the beneficiary of my excess crockery ha ha.
Hope you have a peaceful weekend and are able to get the rest you need. Take care Jules x
Hi Brian
Think everyone has a bathroom lock- in mishap to tell. My own happened when I was a small child and I was on holiday in a B&B in Swanage. Was told not to lock the door but did and of course could not manage to unlock it!! Luckily it had a large window and the owner had to get his ladder out. The story goes that I amused myself by unravelling all the spare loo rolls and that my Mum and Dad were red with embarrassment he he.
Wishing you and Mrs B a restful weekend; keeping you all in my thoughts. Jules x
