Am I asking too much? My husband hasn't had any further follow ups, checks or communication since finishing treatment last year

My husband had radical surgery last May to remove a kidney, his bladder, prostate and associated lymph nodes. He then had follow up chemotherapy.

He had a Ct in November which showed nothing unexpected.

Since the end of November he has had issues with very raised potassium levels. His meds have been adjusted and it has decreased but still above normal.

Am I expecting too much wondering why there has been no further follow up, checks or communications. It's as though surgery is done and that's it.

Will there be further scans or at least checks that his remaining kidney is OK etc.

Just feeling lost and frustrated

  • I'm really sorry to hear that your husband hasn't had any further communication or follow up checks since November last year AliceM25.

It's completely understandable why you're feeling lost and frustrated but I hope this information we have about the follow up process for kidney cancer will help you know what should be happening and what to do next.

If it would help to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very well informed and will do all they can to address your questions and concerns.

Hopefully some of our members will share their experiences and advice with you soon but in the meantime, we're sending you all our support AliceM25 and hope your husband is able to get the follow up appointments and care he should be receiving at this time.

    Best wishes to you both,
