Bowel issues since finishing treatment for cervical cancer 3 years ago

I was treated for cervical cancer in 2022 successfully!

I had 5 chemos and 25 radiotherapy’s followed by brachytherapy.

Since treatment I have managed to plan work and life around my bowel movements and have a new different routine.

If I’m desperate to empty my Bowls I always have a ache on my right pelvis side which gets a bit sore after emptying my bowls.

this has been the case for 3 years but last month I had constant aches in that region and needing to go to the toilet more, I limited my diet and tried buscapan (which took the edge off) but it’s still going on.

Had my check up yesterday and was told all looked good, he felt my tummy and said these things happen after treatment and would refer me if get worse?

It’s just worrying I’ve had no blood in poo or bloating just the ache and toileting more and just feeling blah!

Anybody else relate and what helped them please?

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Katrina6 although I'm sorry about the changes you've noticed with your bowel.

It's good to hear that everything looked ok at your check-up, but it's completely understandable why you're still concerned.

If it's really playing on your mind, you could try getting a second opinion but if it would help to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses before doing anything you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to support you.

Hopefully you will hear back from some of our members who have contended with similar symptoms and issues soon but we hope you're able to manage in the meantime and you start feeling a little less blah soon.

    Kind regards,
