Prostate cancer - feeling worn out, empty and a bit emotional after surgery. Has anyone felt like this?

Had my prostate removed 3 wks ago after being told that was my only option as the cancer had gone to far

happy I’m able to hold my pee and that seams to be working out well waiting to see consultant again at the moment

I have been very positive about it all all the way through

but now I just have this feeling of feeling empty inside not knowing why and a little emotional about it all

anyone els felt like this ?
and then there’s the part of not being able to get it up (so to speak) and that feeling of what makes me a man being taken away. I know that can improve over time hopefully

enough of me rambling just not sure what to say tbh

  • Hello Grandad-1 and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm glad to hear you operation was a success although I'm sorry to hear how you're feeling at the moment.

I hope it helps to know that quite a lot of our members have contended with similar feelings at various stages of their cancer journeys as well, so you are not alone, and hopefully some of them will stop by soon to share their experiences and advice.

I hope this information we have about how cancer can make you feel will offer some reassurance as well but if it would help to have a chat about this with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you.

Coping with prostate cancer can be very tough, so be kind to yourself Grandad-1 and allow yourself the time and space you need to process your thoughts and emotions.

Remember, it's o.k to not be o.k, and when you feel this way come and chat to us as our community will always understand what you're going through.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
