Which brand of Letrozole?

Hi all.  Need some advice.  Saw Oncologist today (after 6 months of chemo; lumpectomy; lymph node removal - micro metastases found; radiotherapy (paused for heart attack) then completed.  Oncologist said today that they can’t say the cancer is gone due to what they found in lymph node removal and it’s likely to come back somewhere .  Been given 2 boxes of Letrozole - Sun Pharma and Amarox.  Already having joint pains and depression due to statins, cholesterol tablets, beta blockers etc given to me after heart attack.  My question is:  which brand do I take ?  Have to start them tonight!!!

I can’t think straight…..

Thank you x

  • Hi janskie, sorry to read about all youve been going through. The answer to your quedtuon is a hard one to answer. As different brands of letrazole  and there are many can affect people differently. I was advised to try to stick with one brand for around 3mths,as you need to get used to takung it and  then you can see if its ok. All brands of letrazole do have side effects. Ive trued quite a few different brands ,cippia i couldnt take it,i couldnt even get out if bed, nade me ache so much ,and sleepy. Apparently its the coating on the letrazole  that has different ingrediants  and can affect how you cope. Im now on Acciord brand,i got my gp tp head my prescription Acvord brand only. But my advise is to just try one of the brands your given to start with  and try to carty on for at least 3 mths with the same brand. Or try reaserchung both brands youve bern given ,look at reviews of both brands as to which people find more tolerable. Bearing in mind we are all  different  what suits another, mught not suit you. Ive bern on letrazole for 5yrs,and have another five years of taking it to go. I also had lumoectomy ,and all lympth nodes removed  which has left me with mild lymphademia.

I do hope you find a letrazole brand that you can tollerate .

  • Thanks Jassoscared.  As the Oncologist thinks it will come back somewhere/someday, I wonder if all the last 12 months have been worth it….

  • I understand your fear, it can come back , to any of us, but try not to worry ,as that wont help. My motto is live your life as best as you can,you could go out and get hit by a bus tomorrow, and life isnt forever on earth for any of us,tomorrow is never promised. So fit in as many things as you can, that give you some enjoyment, walking, swimming, reading a good book, meet up with family or friends. It helps to look at things positivley, its not easy to change your mindset, but if yiu can it really ,really helps.x

  • Thanks.  I’m normally very positive but since going on the heart meds I’ve been feeling negative (probably another reaction…) x

  • Bless you, hopefully you will.get back to being the positive lovely person.you usualy are, your going through a lot so you should actualy congratulate yourself  for posting how your feeling on here...thats a hard first  step to take, and you did that which deserves you a pat on the back . I do hope you start to feel much better about things soon. I do pop on here from time to time. I express my feelings  and thoughts  by writing poems on here. But if you ever need to just  let out steam ,so to say ,this is a great place tp do so. Theres always lots of lovely people on here  that will reach out to you. X

  • Hi Janske,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer within a year of one another. I was advised to stick to Femara or Accord and to take them in the evening instead of the morning. This was slightly better than some other brands, but still caused a lot of side-effects. I had a lumpectomy for the first bout, followed by Tamoxifen for the first year, but had a double mastectomy and changed to Letrozole after I discovered the second bout. That was all 16 years ago now, so I'd definitely say that it was worth it for me, but it is a bit of a lottery. Have you asked your oncologist or specialist nurse what brands they recommend nowadays? I'm so sorry to hear about the heart attack on top of everything else.

Please keep in touch. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
