Poem - A little bit of sunshine

  • A little bit of sunshine

Is always good to see

It soothes my soul

It brightens my day

Which is really good for me

I've been through a lot

Some days are good

Some days not

But I'm  truly gratefull

For my life

In every way

Cancer is gone

and

I get  to wake up everyday.

So Ill be gratefull

for the sunshine

As it soothes my soul

brightens up my day

All the little things

 i didn't see before

I really do appreciate  them

So much more..

  • Hi Jas,

Love it - well done! Hope that you are keeping well.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine  thank you ,good to hear from you hope all.is good with you.

Im ok just tired.a lor . Thyroid and high cholesterol problems scince February 2025. Thyroid and cholesterol bloods taken in Feb,thyroid overactive  cholesterol high. Plus fatty liver diognoses and cyst on liver.  Said we will just keep an eye on it with blood tests, so just had bloods taken and results are thyroid T4 normal, but another part of thyroid is showing as underactive now, so said re test again in months time. Cholesterol results back today saying high, and if i want to be put on statins, they would put me on it. Or if ineant to disscuss it make an appointment.  But I've read letrazole can cause thyroid problems, and thyroid problems can cause your cholesterol to be high. I dont eat fatty foods, uve cut out mist dairy foods, cheese ,I have skinned milk low fat yogurt, spreads for bread I don't eat red mests, ive cut out salt in my food,I eat plant tests, and only eat chicken,I eat lots of salads, fruits,I dint drink alchol.  I drink cholesterol lowering drinks.,so I don't think I can do any more food wise to lower it. My hair is thinning ,and my muscles and bones really ache at times. I'd rather take plant based statins, the nurse told me they don't have side effects like the statins the doctors prescribe. I think you can also get plant based atatins on amazon. Its all a bit of a viscous circle, one problem.causing another. But hey ho  I've got a medicine review coming up soon ,I might talk to who ever I get to disscuss my medications with .  Xxx

  • Hi Jas,

Unfortunately, this is when we discover that the side-effects of cancer treatment just keep on giving! Like you, I have always been careful with my diet and only have the occasional glass of wine and I have had a fatty liver for the past 16 years. They monitor this every 6 months, as it can lead to liver cancer. I've just had the results o my latest ultrasound back this week, along with my bloods and am only slightly above what is deemed to be normal at present. I reluctantly went on to statins a few years ago, as I'd never heard of plant statins.

Make sure to discuss these at your medicine review. If you find out any more about these plant based statins, perhaps you'd let me know? I am fortunate in that my hair has always been thick, but I noticed a lot of thinning from Letrozole too. Am I right in saying that they're not doing anything other than monitoring your thyroid at present?

    Take care,

    Jolamine xx

  • Yes your right not doing anything about my thyroid, that's the bit I don't understand, in Feb overactive now in September underactive bur as the T4 part is normal ,and the other bit of thyroid test underactive they are saying its borderline and not treating it, but its not been right since February, well a bit before that to be honest as I was feeling tired since December 2024,finally went to my GP in Feb, gp who ordered  my bloods to be  tested and that's when it all started.  And yes cancer is the gift that keeps on giving for sure. They don't tell you that do they . My hair  also was very thick ,well fine but lots if it, when inwash it, loads in the sink and when I brush it. Also I find strands of hair on my pillow in morning . It never used to shed like it does now ,I hate it . Yes I didn't know about plant based statins ,until I was talking in Feb to the nurse about my high cholesterol and fatty liver ,and she told me if it continues to be high, the gp will offer you to go in statins, as your at a higher risk of a heart attack or a stroke with high cholesterol.  But statins the doctors will prescribe do have lots of side effects, the plant based statins are much kinder to your body  as they are all natural.  She said don't tell the gp that I told you that ,just say you'd heard about the plant based statins from a friend. So that's what I'll do. Yes jolamine, if I find out a bit more about the plant based ones I'll let you know. If I remember rightly the nurse said they were around £12.99 for a large pot of them from Holland and Barrett, but could of come up since February, everything else has lol.

  •  They are not even monitoring my fatty liver ,how bad is that. Forgot to tell you that . They judt said go on a diet  and excersise. I told them my diet is healthy, explained what I do and don't eat. I find it difficult to excersise  aa im.full of degenerative atheritus  and ive got lymphedema from having my Lympthnodes outso can't out any weight on my arms. And I have shoulder problems, rotator cuff  impingement and inflammation.  Both kneecaps worn awsy at the back ,ive had problems with my knees scince I was 18. Had operations on botj knees ,had artroscopys on both. Knees drilled and shaved ,and a part lateral relief  ( its where they move the muscles to support the kneecaps) so excersise I struggle with . I could go walking a bit more I sopose.  But I now volunteer in a charity shop one afterwards a week.  I went todsy, and to be honest my feet and legs really ache by the time I get home.  I go on the bus ,so do have to walk around  a bit more than I used too .xx

  • Hi Jas,

My thyroid has been borderline for about 25 years. Over that time some doctors have fussed about it and others have ignored it, but it's never been treated. As it is, I'm happy, as I'm on so much medication that I must rattle and I certainly don't want any more! I agree about the hair. I shed an awful lot more on jackets, hairbrushes and I'm always afraid that I'll block the shower, as this is where I lose most.

I'm surprised that they're not monitoring your liver. Get them to check your liver when they do routine bloods, as these will show an increase if your liver is getting any worse and might alert them to watch you more closely. I am sorry to hear that you have Lymphoedema. Is this just in the one arm? They tell me that not so many people get this nowadays, since they started using the tracer dye. I have it in both arms and both legs. I broke four bones in my foot recently and that certainly didn't improve the swelling - they couldn't put a full plaster on for 3 weeks, as the leg was too swollen!

I can emphasise with your various aches and pains as we seem to have similar problems. I have problems with my neck and shoulders following a car accident when I was 28. I have had both knees replaced.. They had to build up the bone at the time because it was so eroded, there was nothing to form the joint. I have severe erosion of my lower spine, with the nerves pinching as they exit the foramen, where they too have collapsed. On top of that I have a slight scoliosis of the spine. This makes walking very painful and I now tend to use a mobility scooter to get around locally. Both knees went when I was taking Letrozole, as did my eyesight. I lost the sight in one eye and was fast losing it in the other. I also developed cataracts. Fortunately, after 7 eye operations, my sight is now good enough to drive again.

You are doing well to keep up with your charity work with all the ailments you have. I always thought that I'd volunteer in a charity shop after I retired, but even standing for a few minutes is hard now, so I do my volunteering sitting down instead.

Keep writing your poems - we all enjoy them so much!
