Chemo curls

It’s 7 months since my hair started to grow after chemo, my hair was shoulder length and I dyed it brown. Myhair has grown back grey and extremely curly. Has anyone had chemo curls and did they eventually grow out? I still can’t go out without my wig on as I feel so self conscious and years older.

  • Hi Gillian, yes like you i had long hair that I lost after two weeks of chemotherapy, it grew back very curly and grey ( i used to colour it). It.did take a long time  , i can't remember exactly how long, but eventualy the chemotherapy curls went. And I started colouring my hair again  after 6/7mths of ending all my treatments ,8 rounds of chemotherapy, 15 rounds of radiotherapy.  So yes in time your chemotherapy curls should subside. To be honest when the curls started to drop slightly I kinda liked the subtle wave I had  but its been five years now ,and chemotherapy curls are no longer there. Im not saying it took five years ,it was before that,id say around a year and a half after  treatments ended i started to notice curls were no longer  as bad, just a nice wave . So yes you are not stuck with your chemo curls. I hope this helps.

  • Hi, Thank you I appreciate you taking the time to reply, I guess I’ll just have to be more patient and be grateful I’ve got some hair even though it’s wild! At least I know the curls may go eventually.
