Tamoxifen conundrum. Is there anything else I can take that's more suitable? Have already changed from Letrozole

Hello this is my first time at this sort of communication so bear with me..especially because I'm on tamoxifen which is making me feel extremely agitated.

Very much worse for wear changing from letrozole because bone density was too low...gave tamoxifen a chance but really can't see a future in this at all.Seeing Oncologist soon .Just wondered if there's anything else I can take that's more suitable..just a little history got diagnosed with her2 breast cancer had usual chemotherapy and radio plus mastectomy. Thanks

  • Hello King-fisher

I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with some side effects of Tamoxifen. I know how difficult it can be to navigate these symptoms.

It's certainly worth talking things through with your oncologist at your next appointment. They will be able to talk about the predicted percentage benefits of taking this medication, which may help you to weigh up the benefits v the side effects.

I know that some women have found that they feel better able to tolerate Tamoxifen, depending on which brand they have been prescribed so it may be that you feel you'd like to consider trying a different brand of the drug to see if the side effects improve.

Hopefully when you see the Oncologist, they will be able to give you some reassurance but if it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses before your appointment, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I do hope things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
