Letrozole

I've been on Letrozole for 6 years now and apart from joint pain in the very beginning I've not really had any problems. My oncologist says next year I should be able to stop taking it. I was 48 when I had cancer and probably perimenopausal but after chemotherapy they said I was post menopausal. I had no symptoms that I know of. My question is when I come off Letrozole will I be hit by menopause symptoms. Im a bit worried that all the horrible things I missed out on will come back.

  • Hi Claire21,

That's great that you have not really had any problems with letrozole but I can understand why you are wondering what the effects of stopping taking it might be and if it means you will be hit by menopause symptoms when you come off the drug. I am not sure really what might happen but I would suggest you ask your medical team/ specialist as they will be aware of your specific circumstances and will be able to tell you more about what to expect.

Our cancer nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm so don't hesitate to give them a call if you would like to talk things through with them.

I hope that you will hear from others who have also been in a similar position and that they will come and share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
