late effects from radiotherapy treatment for vaginal cancer

hi i had radiotherapy, chemo and brachytherapy for vaginal cancer which finished about 18 months ago.

beginning of April this year i started with skin problems which ended up ulcerated and very painful so i am back on morphine, i have had biopsies and the results came back as post radiotherapy skin changes. i am so grateful that the treatment worked but i am suffering really bad with these ulcers that just don't seem to want to heal. What i am going through right now is much worse than the treatment was and that was rough.

has anyone else had late effects of the treatment and how long did it last?

i really want to move on but feel like I'm going backwards, it feels like the cancer is still there even though i have had biopsies results my mind is not convinced and its really getting me down.

  • Hello debz64

I'm so sorry to hear that you're struggling with late side effects of your radiotherapy treatment. It sounds like it's been a particularly difficult time for you and I can understand that it's dragging you down.

I hope that you've spoken with your specialist cancer nurse or the consultant about these ulcers and you're being well supported to try and help improve things for you.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that things begin to improve for you soon Debz64. Keep in touch and let us know how you're getting on.

    Best wishes,
