Life after prostate Cancer

Since having my prostate removed I am incontinent and can't get an erection. My wife and I have tried a vacuum pump, Viagra, I just can't get past the incontinence and how embarrassed I feel if we try to be intimate. We have not had sex for three years now and it makes us both feel sad. Anyone else have a similar experience and what helped?

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Neville-C.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I can imagine how challenging this must be for both you and your wife. It's completely understandable to feel the way you do, many men face similar challenges after prostate surgery, and you're certainly not alone.

It's encouraging that you've tried options like a vacuum pump and medication. However, the emotional impact of incontinence and changes in sexual function can be just as significant as the physical aspects. It's important to acknowledge these feelings and seek support.

With that in mind, there’s a page from our website I wanted to share with you as it covers sex and erection problems after treatment for prostate cancer.

It might also be a good idea to get in touch with your medical team, as they’re familiar with your treatment history and can discuss further options or referrals to specialists who can assist.

I hope you find the support and solutions that work best for you. Please remember, you're not alone, and we're always here if you need a chat.

    All the best,
