Itchy scars. Skin cancer

Hi there. I have recently had 4 small SCC tumours  removed. My surgeon did a good job, although I didn't expect the scars to be so large. Im now on a course of Regencorr, applying the cream on and around the scars, but I'm worried about the itching, it's not always there but it often is.  The doctor says this is not a reason to stop. Before applying as prescribed i cleanse the skin, the course is long. Could it be an intolerance? I've never had any allergies

  • Hi Cheeslond,

I am pleased to hear the surgeon did such a good job and I hope that you are getting used to the large scars. The itching must be a rather irritating side effect and I am not sure what is causing this but you did well to check with your doctor. Perhaps if the itchiness doesn't improve, you could get in touch with your doctor again or seek a second opinion  to see whether there is anything that could ease this itchiness while you are completing the treatment course. Your doctor will also be able to tell you whether this is an intolerance, an allergic reaction or simply a known side effect of the cream.

You can also get in touch with our cancer nurses for advice on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that the itchiness improves or that you find something that works to relieve it. Other members of our community may have experienced itchy scars when using the same cream and they may have some good tips or advice for you based on their own experiences.

    Best wishes,

  •  I'm interested in all opinions and advice.  Thank you, Lucie. All the best to you

  • No, it's not an allergy, when I used Regencorr there was sometimes itching and redness, but it went away quickly. Did you have actinic keratosis before you were diagnosed with SCC, and if so how long before SCC?

  • Thanks, will definitely read the whole thread

  • Hello. It is difficult to remember now how it was and whether I had actinic keratosis before Scc. I can only say that there appeared two red papules on my cheek and then appeared behind the ear and below the ear, on the neck. My wife pointed it out to me I wouldn't have noticed it myself.
On the cheek grew in size and a little peeling and behind the ear a small bump on the skin began to bleed and I went to the doctor and after a biopsy I was diagnosed with SCC. It's all on the right side

  • Prevention by Regencorr was a long time ago. Last year I didn't protect myself from the sun, but I tried not to stay out in the sun for too long. During the winter I noticed that I had a few pink spots on the face and in general the skin on my face became dry and a little peeling in some places. I relaxed too early and neglected to protect myself, even though the burns on the skin of the face were not there, but the tan was. Now I'm wondering if it's actinic keratosis and if so, what then and when? :( The changes on th face so far, barely noticeable but it's becoming worrying

  • If you have any changes on the skin you need to treat  them as soon as possible, we're in the risk group! I have some unusual spots on my arms and chest am going to treat them later I'll do prophylaxis
