Support Groups

Are there support groups, either online or in person where I can discuss my journey.

I'm coming out the other side of my cancer diagnosis now. I had stage 1 cervical cancer, which resulted in a hysterectomy. I'm still waiting on the results of that - hoping to get a call saying "no further treatment".

But I don't think I have processed all of my emotions from the last 6 months and feel like a support group might help.

Please advise.

Thanks

  • Hello P3GRU,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat! Well, we would love to hear more about your journey so don't hesitate to start a new thread here on our forum about your story. I am sure many of our members who have had a cervical cancer diagnosis will find your experience inspirational so I would like to say that one of the online groups available is precisely this forum (I am of course terribly biased!).

It must be a huge relief for you to be coming out the other side of your cancer diagnosis and it is nice of you to want to share your story with others who are currently embarking on a similar journey. I hope you are not too anxious as you are waiting for these important results - even though you know deep inside that all this is probably behind you now, understandably you won't quite believe it until you read the words in black and white 'no further treatment' and then you will probably want to celebrate yay! I hope that you get these results very soon so that you can move forward and forget about everything you've been through.

As you say though, when you've been through something like this, there are a lot of emotions to process which are all hitting you now and this is when a support group can help, a safe space where you can offload and deal with those emotions and also share your experience so that it benefits others.

Our website has a useful list of resources and support organisations and try and see too whether there is a Maggie's Centre near where you live as they may have local support groups of interest to you. You should also ask your medical team whether your local hospital for example has a cervical cancer support group or if there are any groups in your area for cancer survivors. More specifically to cervical cancer, have a look at the cervical cancer resources and support organisations mentioned on our website. Macmillan also have this In Your Area directory which is an online directory of cancer support services, self-help and support groups across the UK.

I hope this helps a little - and maybe some of our lovely members who have been through cervical cancer too will have some good suggestions for you too based on their personal experiences.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Thank you so much.

I got the long awaited results on Saturday - no precancer or cancer was found after the removal of my womb, cervix and tubes.

WHAT A RELIEF! I don't think I realised just how much it was weighing on me. I'm looking forward to moving forward with my life now.

I have had a look through all the links you suggested ️

    Thanks again
