Hormone Therapy or not.

Hi all, have been diagnosed with prostrate cancer, and currently undergoing Radiotherapy, 38 sessions.Start of the fourth week, have been on Hormone Therapy for 6 months now but thinking of coming if it after Radiotherapy.

Is there anyone who has made a similar move, would be great to here if anyone has.PSA has now come down to normal levels.Hardly any side effects, stage 3, Gleason score of 3+4=7 with a 75% cure rate.

Seems positive but would love to come off the Zolodex …thanks Trucker_boy.

  • Hello Trucker_boy,

Well done for getting through all these radiotherapy sessions. I hope that the 4th week goes well. It might be worth discussing with your medical team whether coming off hormone therapy is a good idea at the moment and I hope that you will also hear from the experiences of others on the forum who similarly decided to come off Zoladex after radiotherapy for prostate cancer.

It's very good news that your PSA has come down to normal levels and that you have suffered hardly any side effects - it all looks very promising and I wanted to wish you the best of luck with the rest of your treatment. Keep us updated if you don't mind on how things progress for you; we'd love to hear from you again.

Feel free to get in touch with our cancer nurses on this free number 0808 800 4040 if you wanted to talk to them about your situation - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I will now let our members who have had a prostate cancer diagnosis and who faced a similar choice regarding hormone therapy come and share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,

  • I have recently been diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer, Gleason score of 3+4 =7.  I am still considering options between radiation and surgery although inclined toward radiotherapy.  In consultation with oncologist, I am eligible for a high beam radiotherapy (SABR) over a shorter period. She was relaxed whether a did this in conjunction with hormone therapy or not.  I'd much prefer not to take hormone treatment.  Any other experience of taking this route?
