Cancer free - almost 12 months on

I was diagnosed with anal cancer in October 2022 and was told I was cancer free in October 2023……..hooray!!! However, I am still in a lot of pain when going to the toilet, I have bouts of diarrhoea and this makes me very sore. Has anyone else had this type of cancer and is still struggling? My diet has had to change a lot, there are lots of food and drinks that I have been unable to re introduce into my diet since cancer and I’m beginning to dread that my life will never be the same again! K x

    It's great to hear you've been cancer free since October last year, although I'm sorry about the issues you've been having since then.

    It sounds like things have been quite challenging. If you're worried do make sure you discuss your concerns with your GP/medical team as they will be in the best position to advise but hopefully some of our anal cancer members will pick up on your post soon and stop by when they can to share their experiences and advice.

    We do have some information on our website about the diet changes you have alluded to in your post, but if you'd like to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses, they can be contacted on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very knowledgeable and will do all they can to support you and address your concerns.
