Telephone consultation for 3 months time. What could it be for?

Hi, 2 weeks ago I had my first ct scan post chemotherapy and got some good news thank god. However today I have randomly just got a letter with a telephone consultation for 3 months time? I’m confused as to what this could be for, does anyone have any idea? thanks

  • Hello TomR1,

So pleased for your good news, that's amazing! I am not sure what this letter with the telephone consultation is for - it doesn't sound urgent if it is in three months' time but if I were you, I would also want to know what this is about, if it is some follow up appointment or what exactly it is for. Get in touch with your medical team/GP and ask them to explain to you what this telephone consultation is for and I am sure they will be able to clarify this for you.

Perhaps other members of our community will have been through a similar process before and they might be able to enlighten you further on what this might mean but to be absolutely sure, the best thing to do is to call them and find out more.

  • Good old NHS automated letters.
My own hospital puts telephone appointments in the diary three months in advance to discuss the results of follow up CT scans whose appointments are made only a month in advance.
When this first happened, I phoned and was told “oh yes, that confuses a lot of patients, but the IT system only lets us book CT scans a maximum of 28 days in advance”!

My guess is that your hospital has the same IT systems as mine!

    Best wishes
