Check ups for NED cervical cancer survivor

Hi. In July 2022 I was diagnosed with early stages cervical cancer. I had two LLETZ and they managed to get it all. September 2022 I was told I was NED. Great. Was strongly advised to have a hysterectomy due to it being adenocarcinoma and I had completed my family. June 2023 I had my hysterectomy. I have had two examinations since, the last one in February 2024. So I’m not even two years out of diagnosis, but I have now been discharged. No more checks at all. Just to keep an eye out for any reoccurrence symptoms.
whilst I am eternally grateful to be NED, to have no checks from now on is absolutely freaking me out!! I would have thought for 5 years there should at least be a yearly check?
does anyone else know about this? I am in Surrey.

  • Hi Peggysbombom,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand this causing some concern. I'm not too sure on whether this is 'normal' or not - your doctor would be best placed to advise, so you could always discuss your worries with them to see what they say.

You are also welcome to speak to our nurses about this if you'd like to, either by posting in the 'Ask the Nurses' section of this forum, or calling freephone 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5 - excluding bank holidays).

Otherwise if others here have similar experience to share then hopefully you'll get some more replies soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
