Stopping Tamoxifen after 10 years

I am due to stop after 10 years on Tam, I had presumed I would have been seen by a health professional but have never had a request to attend any appointment?

Have others been spoken to or have they just stopped taking it with any guidance?

I contacted my GP weeks ago and have just got a phone call to say my doctor will only give me a phone consult as he has nothing to say on the matter! I asked if I was the only one in my town to ever come off this drug as I can not be the only one.

Reading all the info on line is not helpful and it sounds like I am going to have an awful time with no guidance!

What advice do others have as I am so concerned about the return of my cancer, the effect on my physical and mental health and generally worried.

  • Hi ERH,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear that your doctor has not been particularly helpful on this so far.

You may find it helpful to have a search of this forum (using the bar at the top of the page), as there will be other discussions about this on here which may be helpful, as well as potentially finding others who have been through this that you can connect with.

If you have a phone appointment coming up, try to make the most of this by getting all your questions and concerns answered and addressed.

You are also welcome to speak to one of our nurses about this, as it may be helpful to get their thoughts and advice. If you'd like to do this, you can call freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Otherwise, hopefully you'll get some more replies to your post here soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
