How to loose weight

Hi everyone, this is my 1st post.I was diagnosed with lung cancer in upper right lobe early this year.I had upper right lobectomy in Easter followed by 3 months chemo & finally just finished 6 weeks of radiotherapy now got 3 months to wait for final results.Over the whole period I have put on almost 10kg which I really want to loose.Im still tired, weak & breathless.Anyone any ideas on moving forward?

  • Hi that's great News that you've completed your treatment and going forward I hope you do well and get back to full fitness ,no doubt you know how important nutrition and exercise are to aid your recovery and stamina ,you will probably have to change your usual diet so that it include more foods that are cancer fighting ,when I thought I had cancer last year ( luckily it turned out not to be ) I bought some recommended books from Amazon which lists foods to eat more of and less off to ward off cancer ,I wanted to be prepared to do everything I could to help myself ,I also bought a small  fold down treadmill which I use everyday  I started off walking for about 10 mins at a time whilst watching TV as I hate exercise I find it boring but gradually I started losing weight and building up my stamina ,I also have Asthma and it helped massively with that , so this is what I would recommend start off slowly really thinking about what you are wanting to achieve and you will get there ,I also bought a small juicer and started juicing celery lemons and ginger and raw beetroot , have a go when put altogether it can help with mood changes and depression ,Best Wishes on your journey keep popping on here to let us know how you're getting on x

  • Thanks for that Jenny, I'll just add about myself I just turned 70 have been a carpenter all my life & only stopped working early this year because of the cancer.I enjoyed my work & if I could get my fitness back I'd love to get back to some work (it's good for the mind as well)

  • Hi Jim I agree its good to stay active you seem to be in the right frame of mind to do all you can to get back to some sort of fitness ,I did it by walking 20 mins a day on the treadmill changed my diet and lost 3 and a half stone .

  • Thanks so much for the advice,I'm going to wait a while before I start as I finished radiotherapy last week & it can take some time for the effects of it to clear from the system (I know what it feels like to have been in a microwave now, I'm still cooking!!!)
