I had my last radiotherapy session today but am I celebrating with a fine Chablis? Nooo I am now also very concerned about taking Tamoxifen.
it puzzles me why if my stage 2 lumpectomy turned out to actually be more of a stage 1 once removed, nodes are clear and I’ve no C history they want me to take a drug that clearly makes you feel ten times worse than anything else I’ve been through? I’m 54 and was having mild menopausal symptoms before my op so the thought of going head first into meno hell seems bonkers if I’m at more risk crossing the road!!
I’m getting married next year and would prefer not to look like a sweaty whale of a woman with varicose veins and a non existent sex drive! Might as well hand him over to his secretary now and live my life in stretchy trousers covered in cat hair!!

  • Hi there , although sorry to hear your story , you made me smile as you have the same sense of humour as me ! I hope you don’t mind me being blunt , but here goes . The Tamoxifen is used to help prevent the cancer coming back . Oestrogen “feeds” this cancer . Yes the side effects are s@@@  . I’m on Letrozole which is just as bad side effect wise , I hate it ….but I had a grade one 18 years ago , I wasn’t put on Tamoxifen as it was deemed unnecessary as a grade one and here I am 18 years down the line with a recurrence in the same breast so now facing mastectomy . I am that sweaty Buddha x Have a chat with your surgeon . All the best for your wedding ! X

  • Hi LCR!

I’m so sorry to hear about your recurrence.  18 years seems like a long time but I have sons and I know all too well how quickly 18 years passes!!

I try to see the funny side but yes it’s all a bit s&&&t and a life change.  I know you’re right about the Tam. I’ve booked an appointment with the surgeon.  Big brave girl pants are back on!  Thank you for taking the time to reply.  xxx

  • You’re welcome , and good luck!
