Muscular Pain in Neck and Upper Back/Shoulders

Hi

I have completed my breast cancer treatment which was a total of 18 months including chemo, mastectomy, radiotherapy and full lymph node removal. I am not on Anastrozole and monthly Zoladex injections.

I am suffering with such bad muscular pain in my neck and upper back/shoulders. Has anyone else suffered with similar?

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Helen although I'm sorry to hear about the pain you've been experiencing in your upper back, neck and shoulders.

Hopefully some of our members who have contended with similar issues after finishing their treatment will be along soon to share their experiences and advice but if you'd like to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very supportive and will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

Do keep an eye on the pain Helen, and if it doesn't improve, or continues to get worse, then do let your GP or BCN (if you were assigned one) know.

    Kind regards,

Hi Harker,I'm sorry yoir experiencing neck and shoulder pain ,I am too,so I know how painful it all is. I am 3yrs on from having right breast  lumpectomy, and all lympth nodes removed from under right arm. I had 8 rounds of chemotherapy, and 15 sessions of Radiotherapy.  I do have degenerative arthritis in my knees,  hips, back ,hands ,neck and shoulders. But scince all trestments and taking letrazole, I've developed on my right shoulder rotator cuff inflammation, and an Impingement in my right shoulder, I'm neck  hurts more now,and my left shoulder is so painful  now,and clicks.  I have lymphedema in my right arm ,wrist and hand  caused by having to have all my lymph nodes removed from under my right arm as 3 contained cancer cells. So i can't have  any injections or bloods taken from my right side. So can't have any hydrocortisone injections to help.  I've only just recently been experiencing the pain and clicking in my left shoulder, but if it continues to get any worse,I might ask my gp,if I can have an injection on that side.  I do hope you get some help and can manage your pain soon. Cancer is the gift that keeps on giving, didn't realise it would lead  to all these other problems ,but to be honest I'm just so grateful I found my tumour in my breast when I did,and im still here, that's got to be good.

  • Hi there, I’m on Letrozole and have had bone pain since taking it . Please check with your doctor first , but I find that taking (Lamberts) Magnesium 150 mg morning and night helps a lot . Perhaps the BCN can recommend something .

  • lcr Hi  and thank you for your reply. I'm going for my annual mamagram soon, so thank you for letting me know about  you taking Lamberts  Magnesium 150grams morning and night so I'll ask the breast nurses about this, and also my gp when I can actualy get through to them,as it takes ages.if not ill ask the pharmacy. Do you take 150mg morning and night ( 300mģ total quantity for the day) or is it  75mg in morning and 75mg in evening = 150mg.just making sure , I only have half a bowel as had a bowel resection in 2015,as had pre cancerous polyps, so hoping I will be able to take this,to see if it helps.I also am under the gynecologist for vin 3,pre cancerous cells of the vulva, and gallstones as well, which im managing ok, so.ive a lot  going on. Thanks for your help, and im wishing you good health too. ,

  • Hi , you have a lot going on! I take 150mg of Magnesium in the morning and another 150mg at night totalling 300mg . Btw they can have an affect on your bowels so be aware of that . Good luck x

Thank you for your prompt reply, If I'm advised I can take it,I will ,anything that can take that  helps, will be a blessing. Fingers crossed .
