Breast Reconstruction

Hi, I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has had or knows someone who has had breast reconstruction surgery post cancer. I’m due to have surgery in a matter of weeks and I’m struggling to decide on a mastectomy with an implant or the diep flap surgery. Has anyone had either they would recommend or not and the reasons why? Would you make the same choice again given the chance?
Many thanks in advance.

  • Hi , there are pros and cons to each procedure , details can be found on Breast care Now and other advice forums. A DIEP is Major surgery about 8 hours with a 4-8 week recovery time but it give a more natural look and you use your own tissue so less chance of rejection . It also ages with you . You can also discuss options with your surgeon & breast care nurse. I am waiting for a DIEP . Good luck x

I decided to go for the implant as I would have both sides done and it’s a longer recovery with the

Diep I will be 62 soon and feel the silicone will be ok .It is a very personal thing ,good luck whatever you decide on xx
