Hello, I had horrendous hot flashes on Tamoxifen. Drenched for most of the day and night. Thoroughly miserable, exhausted and short tempered. Oncologist put me on venlafaxine. I was also offered Clonidine (normally prescribed for blood pressure but is effective for hot flushes) I opted for venlafaxine to help with my mood too. You are only put on a low dose. They have worked really well. Still got the odd one but overall a tremendous improvement. I also find putting something cold against my wrist or neck helps. I have an insulator bottle with cold water in it or just run cold water on wrists. Seems to work. Hope that helps.

thank you so much for your help , do you mind me asking was if your gp you asked for these tablets or do I need to speak with my oncologist xx
I think you could just see your GP. I brought it up when I had my annual check up with my oncologist and he wrote to my GP with recommendations. If you are still in touch with your breast cancer nurse, they may be able to help too. x

thank you so much for your kind help , I will contact my oncologist tomorrow by email and ask her to do some recommendations to my Gp I need to act quick as the last week has been so bad , I thought I was doing so well after 9 months thought I was over the affects seems like now it’s starting x love Lara x
Lara I've followed your brilliant posts on here amazed at how well you've been doing on Tamoxifen my sister was on that and she did great on it that was about 15 years ago ,do you think maybe the brand itself could have changed that could be causing these awful side affects ,it does seem strange to suffer after all this time after doing great on them ,the ingredients if you can call it that might have changed nevertheless you can't tolerate that long term I would definitely see your GP or oncologist ,I'm sure they'll be able to help x

took advice gp prescribed clonodine Thank you xx
Hi, I hope they are starting to have a positive effect. If that doesn't work, make sure you contact your GP again. There are other medications used for this. Hot flushes are more than just feeling hot, they make you fell generally dreadful, as you know. Wishing you the best, Jane.
