Pancreatic cancer

I had the Whipple operation about 16 years ago and yes I am luck to still be here, but the operation left me a mess. I would very much like to chat to anyone else who had the same operation please. Peajay

  • Hi Peajay and thank you for posting on Cancer Chat.

I’m just posting a quick response to let you know that from tomorrow morning the Cancer Chat forum will be in read only mode while we carry out essential maintenance.

This means that nobody will be able to reply to your post until the forum is back up and running on Wednesday.

We wouldn’t like you to think that nobody cared enough to reply so I just thought I would let you know that you might have to wait a few days to get a response.

    Kind regards,

  • I'm so sorry to hear of the complications you've been living with since having your whipple procedure Peajay.

I can't begin to imagine how difficult things have been for you these past 16 years but I hope it helps to know that many of our members have also had this operation, so you are not alone, and hopefully some of them will stop by soon to share their experiences and advice.

If you'd like to discuss your situation with one of our cancer nurses, you can do so on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

They're very helpful and will do all they can to support you at this time.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello Peajay, I had the Whipple operation in July 2021, luckily I came out relatively unscathed. A year on my digestion seems to have settled down and my bowel function seems back to some kind of normality. However, the operation has left me with a quite significant Incisional Hernia, the Surgeon says as long as it is not causing me any problems he would look to perform surgery sometime next year. It is a bit unsightly and on the odd occasion gives me a bit of tummy ache, but touch wood nothing to serious.
