Pancreatic cancer and treatment - stay positive if you can

I had a diagnosis of FAP at the age of 24 and have had three surgeries for Polyps that turned cancerous first was removal of part of my colone at age 25 second was 25 years later when I again was diagnosed with Cancer this op consisted of removing all of my large intestines and a resectioning small intestine into a J pouch, thought this was the end of the problem, but alas at the age of 67 I was again dignosed this time with Pancreatic Cancer which was stage three.  I had the whipple operation to remove the cancer this involved removing the head of the Pancreas, the bile ducts, gall bladder and part of my stomache. And to top it all I was operated on three days before the covid lockdown   March 2020.  Why am I writing this?  well to be honest I Just want to encourage anyone who is going through a cancer to always think positively and keep your spirits up and as an older Gentleman I can say that being possitive about your condition will help you heal both mentally and physically.

Jus as a foot note I was given a genetics test and was found also to have the Lynch syndrome well that in my mind completed the reasons for having so much cancer over the years.  So if you are reading this and are going through a cancer please take heart there is light at the end of the tunnel if you remain positive and secondly have great trust in your care team nurses and surgeon/consultant and like me look to the future and no matter what My hope for you is to have a long life after cancer, I am now three years post op and living my life to the full.

  • Hello Sam-k and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

You really have endured so much but it's so uplifting and inspiring to see you have such a positive mindset and outlook on life, one which I'm sure many of our members will appreciate too and will turn to when times get tough on their own cancer journeys.

We hope you continue to live life to the fullest Sam and wish you all the best for the future.

  • Hello

Thankyou so much for your post ️

    My pancreas is being monitored.

My next mrcp is in 2 weeks, my health anxiety is off the scale

Anyway thankyou , I wish you continued good health x

  • It was really encouraging reading this.  Everyone thinks I am paranoid and overthinking. My scales say no but my clothes say yes and I fitting into clothes that were really tight. I am really concerned as my father died from pancreatic cancer.  My mind is awash with stuff.  My arms and legs are skinnier than they were already. Again when I read that others have had bleed results normal this only increases my anxiety. My fulll blood works normal. Liver and kidney functions normal bone profile normal I have had two pancreatic cancer markers  normal  yesterday my colonoscopy came. Back as normal apart from piles no appetite loss but today for first time. Could not eat and had pain under breast radiating to my back and every day I appear thinner.

  • Thank you for such a positive and uplifting post and I wish you good health and hope you can continue to live life to the fullest for a long time to come.

My CA19.9 levels have been rather high for a while now and I have been through CT, MRI and gastroscopy tests and referred to one of the specialist hospitals , but to date they have not found anything. The consultant told me ' we can't tell you that you definitely do have cancer but nor can we tell you that don't' - . So on we go with blood tests and waiting for the specialist.
