Pre assessment for Diep surgery

I was at the hospital for 3 hours yesterday. The anaesthetist was so nice and answered all my questions She said she will do everything in her power to make me comfortable. I was nauseous after my Mx so will address that. May have sore throat after waking and will have drains and a catheter. Probably be in for 5-7 days but drains will be removed before going home which is a relief. They then did all the tests heart, bloods etc and I saw a nurse who advised me on post op items I would need, compression pants that come up to your chest and front fastening bras. These have to be worn night and day so need to be comfortable. Loose clothing as well. I was then given drinks to take before surgery and an injection I give myself, a blood thinner. . Pretty comprehensive so I am now prepped and ready to go. No dates given though and was told today it may be up to 6 months waiting! May be sooner I'm hoping, just to put it behind me . The recovery is long but fingers crossed its a good outcome. One of the best hospitals for reconstructive surgery and only a hour away so I'm lucky.

  • Hello Silverdays

I'm glad to hear that your pre-op went well and that you feel prepared for the surgery.

The recovery process from DIEP reconstruction does take time but hopefully you'll get through it with minimal concerns and be happy with the end result.

Keeping my fingers crossed you have news on a date for surgery soon.

    Best wishes,
