Breast Pain a year after treatment. Should I be worried?

Hi,I had a lumpectomy followed by radiation treatment 1 year ago.Six months after the treatment I started with breast pain which I was assured by the breast are team that it was normal.Ihave been tolerating it until recently when I had my yearly follow up mammogram. It really hurt during the procedure and is still hurting me 5 days later.Has anyone else experienced this?

  • Yes to the pain caused by mammogram. I think the radiographer was just not observant or experienced, squashed so flat, just hate it. Had lumpectomy recently yes feel small sharp pains, wakened 1 morning  thinking a drill going through nipple, not sure if dreaming it. Now random pains varying strength not sure if it's the hormone inhibitor I take. In limbo between surgeon & radiologist. So waiting for improvement. Hope yours is minor.

  • Sorry to hear your in limbo.I had a good prognosis with my cancer results last year. It's the pain I'm getting in my nipple on the breast where i had my treatment last year that only seems to be since my mammogram 5 days ago that's worrying me

  • Hi, my wife's breast/nipple was really sore over recent weeks/months. She had finished her chemo and radiotherapy months prior.

Worryingly, she also found a new hard lump. This was all before Christmas. She called the nurses and they couldn't get her in until January 11th. They did say, pain is good. Weird as it may sound. Because of the pain they weren't overly concerned.

Anyway, she went to hospital. The pain was a left over from radiotherapy. The lumps were oil cysts. she thought it was only one lump, but there were two. Both leftovers from either the surgery or radiotherapy.

  • Thanks, but I'm still wondering if the recent mammogram I've had could have caused the nipple pain .I only had breast pain before the mammogram, but never nipple pain?
